    Brian's Sovereign of the seas

Try some white tape or paper first to see if you like it. Pete

    Pete's Humbrol Tempest

Tried both those Joe, without much success. Also tried washing it out with white spirit - no effect, then lighter fuel, which dissolved the blu tak but also the paint. Pete

    DH88 Comet bad news

They actually said they will rebuild her to flying condition, which is not quite the same thing. Pete

    Pete's Humbrol Tempest

Thanks Joe. It's not so good now - remind me to not use blue tak to mask wheel wells in future. The detail in the wells has trapped some tak in the corners. Couldn't get it all out so I'll paint over it. Pete

    Brian's Sovereign of the seas

Were the guns gilded as well? Pete

    Latest Acquisitions (2026)

It's my birthday today and this came from my younger daughter: I don't know how I'm going to build it - it's bigger than my work space! If the wings fit well I might try to paint them separately and add them later. Pete

BOATMANS B58 HUSTLER IN 148th scale with lights

I'm surprised the liquid decal film didn't work. Good luck at Hannants. Pete

    AK Real Colours.

Tell them that. Maybe they'll feel guilty. Pete

    Pete's Humbrol Tempest

I had to simplify the masking scheme a little as it's really difficult with my tremor, but I think it looks OK. I laid out the pattern with Tamiya tape for curves then filed in with normal Tamiya tape. Undercarriage wells were filled with white tack so I need to dig that out. Pete

    DH88 Comet bad news

If anyone can rebuild it, it'll be the Shuttleworth team. No doubt the DH museum will offer help. Pete

    Papa695s Airfix 1/72 scale Hawker Typhoon Mk1B

Excellent Ian. It's hard to believe it's only 1/72, I'd have thought it was 1/24 if you hadn't stated the scale, and it would be great work even in that scale. Pete

So what about the future, modelling and other matters.

That pilot is really good. Pete

    Gaahleri Voortex Airbrush Paint Mixer

SWMBO declared that I had to have one, so ordered one today. Shame they're out of stock. I'll be sure to let you all know if/how it works. Pete

    Brian's Sovereign of the seas

Presumably all that bling was intended to dazzle the enemy so they couldn't shoot at the SoS. Pete

    Gaahleri Voortex Airbrush Paint Mixer

I wasn't impressed by the reviewer but the mixer looks fairly good. Pete

    Gaahleri Voortex Airbrush Paint Mixer

There's an interesting review at Pity he didn't try Model Air or Tamiya paints. Pete

    Gaahleri Voortex Airbrush Paint Mixer

Come to think of it, it's my birthday on Wednesday and SWMBO has been asking me what I want. I've already got one of those nail varnish shaker, which makes an awful racket and doesn't do much mixing, and an ex-university laboratory vortex mixer which works well but walks across the workbench...

    Tamiya Porsche 959

Where? I can't see them! Pete

BOATMANS B58 HUSTLER IN 148th scale with lights

Thanks for the info Chris. The instructions say to leave that liquid decal film to dry for 15 minutes, but I'm sure longer wouldn't hurt Pete

    Brian's Sovereign of the seas

Rope looks good to me Bri. I wonder, was all that bling really gilded, or was it brass with a cabin boy to polish it every morning? Pete
