FROG 1/72 de Havilland DH 60 g Gypsy Moth

Heres one Ive been wanting to do for ages , the 1/72 DH Gypsy Moth that Amy Johnson flew solo from England to Australia in 1930 , an incredible feat that took 19 days . The kit is the venerable FROG offering , a decent enough base with very reasonable exterior detail but ,par for the course for...

Tonys Italeri 1/48 Spitfire mk XVI

After a last tidy up and masking the canopy its time for some paint. The yellow wing leading edges and propeller tips were first primed white then painted yellow . Once dry these were masked off and the prop and airframe have had a couple of coats of black primer .

That roof repair is shocking andy , i know its got a roll cage but every bit of extra strength is always good . Hopefully the same guy that repaired the roof didn't also fit the roll cage !

    Update on Ron

So sad to hear this , Ron was a great friend and invaluable member of the forum . He informed me of his health problems a good while back but asked me to keep it quiet - he didnt want it to be a worry . I messaged him after xmas but didnt receive a reply so thought something wasnt right ...

Tonys Italeri 1/48 Spitfire mk XVI

Just getting the airframe ready for priming . The windscreen has been glued on and its had a general tidy up . While doing this I noticed the shell ejection ports on the outer wings - but no holes for the machine guns . Again this must be a throwback from when the moulds were for the mk IX . The...

Tonys Italeri 1/48 Spitfire mk XVI

Thanks everyone , its picking up pace now . The lower wing was fitted first so that I can get the wingroot gaps tighter when I fit the tops but before that theres the cannon bulges to sort . Because the tooling started life as a mk IX the bulges are on the inboard cannon location whereas the mk...

Tonys Italeri 1/48 Spitfire mk XVI

Had a good go on this yesterday and today so its moved on a good bit. Once I’d sanded the seams on the fuselage it was time to look at one of the areas that the reviews mentioned , the chin cowling profile. It looks too bulbous near the prop so it was sanded back to give a gentler curve (...

Great job for a second attempt , lovely camo . Steves advice is spot on , and dont worry about the airbrush , you’ll soon get the hang of it with practice . The most important thing is you enjoyed it and its a great result , onward to the next one ! Cheers tony

Tonys Italeri 1/48 Spitfire mk XVI

Cockpit has now been painted up and washed and is ready to be slotted in from underneath after the fuselage halves have been glued . I did another test fit after i joined the fuselage and the wing joints look better , i’m sure with a bit of jiggling I can get the gap closed when it comes time...

Tonys Italeri 1/48 Spitfire mk XVI

After finding a couple of good reference images online Ive added a bit more to the cockpit. Its now a mix of kit parts ( basic but usable) the Eduard etch and 3d decals and a few scratchbuilt bits . There's a few more decals to add and it all needs further painting and a wash but its getting...

Tonys Italeri 1/48 Spitfire mk XVI

Made a start on the cockpit , the etch head armour and seat harness bar were used to enhance the kit part and the instrument panel has had the 3d decal fitted and the etched compass bracket . I also decided to cut out the cockpit door to have it opened , it would be a shame not to see all the...
