    Little Spitfire Diorama - Basic

Hmm, I did a quick google too, before I started the dio, and what I got back was that "most" airfields were grass, etc, but some were indeed concrete or tarmac? so who knows. TBH I'm not that bothered about 100% historical accuracy, as long as it looks ok to me, then that'll do fine AFAIC. Plus...

    Little Spitfire Diorama - Basic

Bit more progress today... Been working on the base, after priming it last night, this morning it got its first coat of paint. Green to the sides and light grey to the middle section. Left to dry for few hours and then some extra shades of green added, and a darker grey mottled over the light...

    Peter's Airfix Spitfire Mk.1a - 1:72 - 90 Yrs of Spitfires GB

Bah.....Could not get the OEM cockpit canopy (middle cut section) to fit, despite fettling as much as I could! Plus I cracked it previously by being too heavy handed with it, and although its only a tiny crack, its still a crack. So I rummaged through my bits and bobs container, where I have...

    Little Spitfire Diorama - Basic

As part of the 90th Anniversary Spitfire GB, I am (obviously) building a Spit. Its a 1/72 scale plane, so quite small, so I thought it might deserve a little diorama. Based on a basic WW2 airfield, the base will be a fairly flat one, with some grass verges and a concrete/tarmac runway. Might add...

    Peter's Airfix Spitfire Mk.1a - 1:72 - 90 Yrs of Spitfires GB

Did a bit more... Removed clamps and it seemed to be stuck ok. Fixed rear tail bits, rudder, and the underside bits, vents, etc. Couple of very slight gaps, so liquid filler applied and left to dry for couple of hours, then another very light coat of primer added. Cockpit door (inner) painted...

    Peter's Airfix Spitfire Mk.1a - 1:72 - 90 Yrs of Spitfires GB

Thanks for that Steve, I have considered some clear plastic, I has some spare bits that may be suitable, how would you apply the heat, eg: hairdryer or similar? or place in very hot water? As I'm assuming a paint stripping heat gun or blowtorch or even a candle will be too much and just melt it...

    Peter's Airfix Spitfire Mk.1a - 1:72 - 90 Yrs of Spitfires GB

Google AI say this: "During World War II, Royal Air Force (RAF) bicycles were typically black, often with a distinctive white section painted on the lower part of the rear mudguard for visibility during blackout conditions. Wartime Colours: While often black, some bikes used on RAF stations...

    Peter's Airfix Spitfire Mk.1a - 1:72 - 90 Yrs of Spitfires GB

More progress... Cockpit dash decals now on, fiddly, but not too bad! Cockpit seat, frame, pilot, etc installed to one side, after several dry fits to check it all lines up! I actually misaligned the seat with the frame when I initially glued the cockpit interior together, not pushing the seat...
