SMS hyperchrome sealer and hyperchrome dark tone.

My understanding is that SMS paints are Acrylic lacquer, so if I highlight the panel lines I use a flory wash which is waterbased, works best on a gloss finish. Once it’s applied and dry you polish it off with a good quality paper towel and tidy up with a damp cotton bud.

SMS hyperchrome sealer and hyperchrome dark tone.

Used SMS Hyperchrome cold tone on a Mustang as an experiment, sprayed over a jet black primer, decaled with no sealer, that was 18 months ago, and it’s shows no sign of deterioration.

    Airfix B17G Little Patches

One of three B17’s from Airfix that have crossed my bench, will build some more as there are so many schemes out there. Main colour was Xtracolor faded Olive drab, modulated with white and brown to try and get a variety of tones. Aftermarket decals.

    Some Recent Finishes.

All three are beautifully rendered, a real credit to you, good job!

What to do with completed models?

Good old Ikea display cabinets, luckily the kids have grown up and moved out so I have taken over room for my modelling, slowly filling up but intend a re vamp this summer!

    Airfix 1/72 Mosquito PR version.

A great little kit which I thoroughly enjoyed, the addition of Eduard’s masks and PE cockpit helped with that enjoyment.

    Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-2 1/24 (Completed)

Superb build, one of the best I’ve seen of this kit, great job!

    Airfix 1/72 Mosquito PR XVl

Moving on, all up together and painting and decaling on the go, will decide about weathering when that’s completed and she’s had a varnish, love Airfix decals, thin, glossy and conform really well.

    Tamiya M4A3 Sherman.

Another fun build to get away from Aircraft for a while, painted with my usual mix of different olive drabs and weathered with oils and pastels.

Red Arrows ‘What if’ EE Lightning. Airfix 1/48th.

thanks for your kind comments Chris, they were a lot of fun to build, I’ve been doing modelling for a very long time so to call myself ‘boy’ is a bit of a fib!! I make some real rubbish models but sometimes I get one right!!!

Red Arrows Hawk. What paint did you use ?

Made my own masks and painted most of them, the roundals and wing walkways were decals from the kit.

Red Arrows ‘What if’ EE Lightning. Airfix 1/48th.

Not a build from the newly released Lightning, build a few years ago on a whim as I was bored with ‘grey’ jets, markings are masked and painted in the main, with a few of the kit decals used. Xtracolor Red Arrows Red. Shown alongside a Hasegawa Phantom.

Red Arrows Hawk. What paint did you use ?

Hi Chris, thanks for the compliment, I’ll post her in completed aircraft if that’s OK, it was a great break from building grey aircraft!!

    Airfix 1/72 Wessex

New tool Wessex from Airfix is a cracking little kit, goes together really well with care, folding rotors are a challenge and really need to check how they fold as Airfix publicly shots have got it wrong!!

Red Arrows Hawk. What paint did you use ?

I Hi Colin, did a Red Arrows ‘What if’ a few years ago and used Xtracolor Red Arrows Red, X014, it’s an enamel so not to everyone’s taste, but a good match.

Just worked out full sized pictures, hope that’s easier to see!

    Airfix 1/72 Mosquito PR XVl

Next on the bench is the Mossie, l thought I’d follow yak face and add some Eduard PE, It is a fiddle but adds so much but instead of folding 1mm square boxes I built up the boxes with plastic card and popped the PE panels on top! Close to closing up, just a few holes to drill out.
