Revel 1/48 - Lockheed Ventura MkII - RAF

Thanks Colin. It was a joy to assemble and paint. Best fitting model I've ever done. Old tool but plane is still sold and is quite superb for an unfaishionable plane I guess. Strongly recommend it. 1. 2. 3. 4.

    Masking Liquid

Wouldn't mind trying some masking fluid and will probably go for the Molotow pens for accuracy. Anyone else tried these or thoughts of liquid Vs masking tape ?

Revel 1/48 - Lockheed Ventura MkII - RAF

First off I have to say this is the best model in terms of fit and quality I have done to date. Beats Tamiya and all the rest. Why this should be on what looks like a current but old mold model I don't know. Detail is good, but the fit of every single component is quite superb. No filler...

Revel 1/48 - Lockheed Ventura MkII - RAF

Kit numbered 85-5533 and I got it as a damaged box so half price from Creative Models. First thing to say is the box art looks dated and the kit was made in the Czech republic and the instructions are a bit, dated. But to be fair they are very clear and some useful guides on order of fitting...

    Shortage of Hawker Hurricanes

Really strugging to find a quality Hurricane 1/48 model. Airfix do one and Hasagawa have a 1997 tooled one but no Tamiya or even ICM. For one of the most important planes in WWII thats a disgrace. Sure the Spitfire is more glamourous and rightly so, but the Hurricane was, and is a master piece...

    1/48 Tamiya - Douglas A-1J Skyraider

This is probably my favourite build so far. Nice sized aircraft and went together like a dream. Lots of detail and a choice of model in the kit. I was surprised to see it was used in the Vietnam war as its top speed is only 286mph but it carried a formidable bomb and weapons load for its ground...

    Misubishi Zero

    1/48 Tamiya Kawasaki Ki-61 1Hein

For some reason its also called Tony ! Good price and free delivery and to me a very interesting looking aircraft. Cant see anybody has built one yet. There are two paint schemes, the mottled green and a plainer one. You can but decals for the green but no one has the 1/48 scale. Looks a real...

    No More Leaks

I used to hear my compressor fire up every few hours to keep the pressure up. Only for a few seconds. Trouble was I forget to turn it off and sometimes in the wee small hours it would fire into life. Not becuase of that I fitted a quick release fitting so I could disconnect the airbrush if I...

    1/48 Tamiya Messerschmitt Bf109 G-6

Finally finished. One of the most enjoyable models to do. everything fitted and some interesting engine details. I prefer it closed up rather than with open engine cowlings. But a really nice model to build and paint. Any gaps yu see around the front are because I'm nervous about pressing the...

    1/48 Tamiya Messerschmitt Bf109 G-6

Lovely model to build. Surprisingly smaller than the 1/48 Spitfire. Fast and nimble. No dashboard yet but a beautifully detailed engine with a couple of small magnets to hold hood open or closed. Great detail by Tamiya

    In Praise of ICM

I contacted ICM HQ in Kiev by email and politely asked if they could supply the clear perspex sprue,E, for the Heinkel 111 so I could replace the one I had fitted on. It looks OK to be fair but I wanted another go at it as it could be better. Got an email reply in a hour saying they would send...

    1/48 Tamiya Messerschmitt Bf109 G-6

It's like a drug. I was going to leave a gap but I sat looking at the box and well........... i'm curious to see what the tiny parts, look like black rubber and one metal piece are in the blue packet.

    1/48 ICM - He 111H-3

Finished but not totally happy with canopy. It looks ok and a bit weathered but it never fitted correctly no matter what I did. But the overall plane is very impressive in its colours in the flesh. I did a bit more weathering underneath and a little bit on top but not much there as the dark...

    Spare Parts

I've almost finished my ICM Heinkel 111 H-3 and its looking good except....... I'm not 100% happy with the whole of the front canopy which is a fiddly 4 part assembly. I mean it looks OK but its a bad piece of design from ICM on what is otherwise a pretty good kit. I'd like to replace it if I...

    1/48 ICM - He 111H-3

I was almost tempted to leave it as per the picture. Looks pretty Brushed on some Dark green as a sort of additional primer.

    Heinkel 111 Colours

On the ICM painting pages it show two colours on the upper camoflauge. In the pictures it looks dark green as a grey green which is lighter, much lighter. Yet the colours suggested are Tamiya XF-27 (RLM70) and XF-61(RLN71). Black Green and Dark Green. Essentially they look pretty much the same...

    My Next Builds are......

Once I've finished the monster filler task of the HE 111 I have lined up a nice Tamiya Bf109 G-6 But I have just ordered Tamiya Skyraider A1-J which looks a very nice plane indeed. Apart from the classics, Spitfire, P51 etc I am drawn to the less well known planes for their different designs...

    Modern Jets

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places. Having watched a couple of prime military programs on jets and the Fleet Air Arm I thought I would look up some modern and post war jets. Jaguar, Tornado, Harrier and so on. Not sure of 1/48 or 1/72 given modern jets are bigger than the old WWII planes...

    1/48 ICM - He 111H-3

Just spent a couple of hours rubbing down and applying the camoflauge underneath. Quite a bit of touching up I guess later on but used Tamiya XF23. Looks OK Filler hides a multitude of problems
