Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

So am I finished? Probably… The new figure helped to fill a bit of a gap… His arrival also means that I have almost reached the six-man compliment for the crew of the 250. The eagle-eyed will spot another changes from the last time I posted: I replaced the telephone wire. The last one...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

Thanks for all the nice comments guys... Anyone looking back over this thread may notice a few rogue images (mostly cars for some reason) - the result of this site's recent platform change. I am trying to delete them (and maybe by the time you read this I will have succeeded!) I will post a...

I have started deleting the rogue images (almost all of them cars!) from my post. It's working OK, but I am unable to replace all the missing images that they pushed out becasue it says I can only attach 10 files to each of my posts. Why is this? I definitely had more than 10 images in some of them?

As an example of the rogue images... If you go to my blog here: https://www.scalemodelling.co.uk/threads/not-a-moment-to-lose-battle-of-the-bulge-ardennes-december-1944.32699/page-11 And go to page 11. The bottom three images (a King Tiger box illustration, some Tiger wheels and then a car)...

I have some rogue images that have appeared in my recent posts... they are images by other modellers that have nothing whatsoever to do with my blog! Not sure how that has happened, because all of the original images came from my own computer!

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

The End Approaches First of all, can I say to anyone who has followed me this far: thanks for your patience! OK, so we have recently passed the 16th December 2025… which makes it 81 years since the start of what became known as the Battle of the Bulge. It was, in many ways, the beginning of...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

Bring on the Kampfgruppe... All I can say is this: next time I plan to paint five figures wearing camouflage uniforms will someone remind me how labour-intensive it is? This is the bible: It is quite pricey, but its worth every penny. One thing you quickly learn as you leaf through the...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

Thanks for the kind comments... Now how did a month fly by? Probably my decision to paint 5 German figures in various patterns of camouflage. They are almost done, but before we look at them, here are the opposition... As this diorama progressed the role of the Americans was the last to...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

On With the Figures Starting with the Germans... First we have the driver of the Schwimmwagen. The putty creases make him look a bit of a mess, but, like all of my figures, here he awaits a coating of Mr Surfacer to unite the finish before I hit him with paint. He’s a kitbash of Tamiya...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

The Jeep OK, so I'm going to take this a bit quicker so that we can catch up with real time on this diorama... Had I ever built a jeep before? I feel that I must have done back in my youth, but my only memory is of the old Tamiya Russian Gaz. So maybe not… I started with the updated Tamiya...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

Thanks guys! More shots of the (almost) finished Schwimm... The twin Panzerfaust were a a common feature the Kampfgruppe Hansen Schwimms passing through Kaiserbaracke crossroads on their way to the front. I cannot make out any camouflage and going for the plain Dunkelgelb finish makes for...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

So let’s have a look at the Schwimm… This is the excellent Tamiya kit with a little helping hand from Aber and Eduard photoetch. As usual, I chose two PE sets to give me options for the easier route (usually not Aber), plus there are almost always some details missing from one set and present...

Sdkfz 250 Ausf B Part III These photos below show the halftrack after I had added the wheels and tracks and (almost) finished the weathering process. In the image above the vehicle is only tempororily in place and it may look as if it is floating. However, as it was relatively light the...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

Thanks guys... Sdkfz 250 Ausf B Part II A few views of the exterior before the paint hit... You can see the muxture of photetch from Royal Model (the brass and resin exhaust), Aber (the upper superstructure and MG shield) plus a few additions of my own (like the side step). The beautiful...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

Bring on the vehicles... Sdkfz 250/1 Ausf B 'Neu' I have to admit that I have long had a soft spot for the Sd.Kfz 250 and the late Ausf B version in particular. It tends to be overshadowed by its much larger cousin the 251, but with its short length and snub nose there is something almost...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

Adding further details... The plant pots were a fun detail to add - and cheap (£2 for a pack from Red Zebra!). The wooden trough was based on images I found on-line. And yes, they really did make them of wood - although lined with clay. It was scratchbuilt from plastic card. I added the...

Not a Moment to Lose… Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, December 1944

Thanks for all the nice things you have said... On with the quick recap on the farmhouse... After a coat of diluted PVA glue to seal the foam board I then gave everything a spray of dark grey and added some white for highlights. Next I painted the individual stones and bricks. The stones...
