    Perry 40mm Light Dragoons

Hi all. My deepest apologies, I rather lost my mojo and then got sidetracked by winding up Septics on Quora, (a deeply satisfying pursuit as I'm sure you'll all agree). I've also taken up medal-mounting as a sideline and as a result haven't posted anything on here for months. Probably more than...

Papa695s 13th Light Dragoon’s Charge of the light brigade

Bum. Those figures are fine for either the 8th or 11th Hussars, but not really for the 13th I'm afraid. They and the 4th were still Light Dragoons at the time of the Crimea and didn't convert to Hussars until the 1860's. Sorry.

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

Finished! Leave over and back to work tomorrow. Boo! Muskets, shakos and abandoned drum came from the Victrix French Infantry set.

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

Getting there. All the figures now done and I'm ready to make a start on the groundwork. Just need to make a decision on placement - should the officer and trumpeter be in the centre of the line, or just forward of it?

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

Hi all. Apologies for the hiatus, I've had a revoltingly busy couple of weeks. Despite that progress has been made. The dragoon Sergeant and a pair of indolent Frenchies. Three more dragoons to do then time to make the base.

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

Cornwall turned out to be great fun and I escaped relatively intact, apart from my liver. That took a savage beating! As a result I didn't really achieve much on Sunday. I redid Neddy's nose though, and I got one of the dozy Frenchman done yesterday. Looks like he's had too much Ricard!

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

I was technically working from home today, but the weather's shite and there was bugger all happening, so I cracked on with some painting and got Trooper No 2 done. Gave him a Chestnut with a white sock and a blaze. Think my neddies are improving, the only one I'm not really happy with is the...

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

Thanks chaps! Off down to Cornwall tomorrow for the weekend so there will be a bit of a break. Also waiting on a picture frame that I'm going to use as the base, so I won't be able to make a start on the groundwork till it turns up. Here's the three done so far. Here's Trooper No 2 and his...

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

Trooper No 1 done, another four to do! The troopers will all be mounted on bays and chestnuts, and for a bit of variety are wearing a mix of bicornes and shakos. Also tried to make his jacket a duller shade of red compared to the officer's scarlet - I used Vallejo flat red with a dab of Humbrol 70.

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

What a cracking weekend! Went up to London to stay with my brother and see Iron Maiden at the O2. They really know how to put on a show! As a result yesterday was a bit of a write-off. Back at it today though and making a start on the troopers (they played "The Trooper" as an encore - natch)...

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

I realised after I posted the last pic that I hadn't painted his buttons, so I added them in. Then I found a reference that said the trumpet cords were braided red and yellow so I repainted them as well, and then I repainted the officer's sword knot, which I'd also missed out. I decided to put...

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

Thanks for all the comments chaps! Wee update. Got the trumpeter done. Before anyone asks, the 4th Dragoons' trumpeters were mostly black and at least one of them fought at Salamanca. Quite an interesting story - link here to an article in the Regimental Museum...

"The start of the charge." 4th Queen's Own Dragoons at Salamanca - Perry 28mm.

Hi all. Another vignette in the making, but going back to the Peninsular. At a critical point during the Battle of Salamanca, Wellington saw that the French left wing was over-extended and launched Le Marchant's heavy cavalry brigade in one of the most devastating cavalry charges in history...

Fire for Effect - 81mm mortar team. A 28mm vignette.

Couldn't get a plaque made as the base isn't deep enough. The narrowest available is half inch, which is shite. Hey ho. I did add a Rifles TRF to their right sleeves though. You can see it if you squint!

Morning all, finished it last night. Pretty chuffed to be fair. I need to get a plaque made as it's a leaving present for a mate, so it's not glued to the plinth yet. The final addition was the No 1's bag - made from a bit of tinfoil formed around a blob of greenstuff and a lump of sprue.

Last update - augies done and the No 2 painted. Next stop basing.

Thanks Jim. The secret is tiny brushes, a steady hand and x3.5 reading glasses! :tears-of-joy: Augies painted. Charge 2 so they've got a bit more reach - out to 2,500m. I had to do some actual work, so nothing further to report.

Morning all. And thank you for all your comments! I'm working from home today, in the loosest possible sense of the word, so I'm cracking on in between answering emails. One thing that was bugging me was that the bombs were all stripped to Charge Primary (max range about 400m). So I've added...

Thanks for all your comments! A bit more progress - I got the No 1 finished. I wasn't happy with the first attempt - far too garish and far too dark. Toned the colours right down and I'm a lot happier.

Almost forgot. I treated myself. I popped into the Tank Museum on Sunday and picked up this set of paints. Reckon they'll be a good base but I may need to tone them down a tad. They look a bit bright.
