No, not a typo error but someone has actually built one!! Not only that but the original pilot, now 95, came along to have a sit in it.

Sorry if this has been posted on here before but I've just stumbled upon it on the BBC website,

BBC News - Life-size Spitfire replica completed after 25 years

That's some airbrushing........

Thanks for sharing this Colin.

I myself have not seen this BBC footage but do wonder if this was the actual model that was on display at last years Scale ModelWorld exhibition in Telford? Perhaps someone can tell me?

Cheers

Rich

And he did not exactly build it himself in a lock up either...He had a lot of help.

A few months ago, I met the man whose company produced the May Spitfire (he also produces many of the "plastic" replicas you see everywhere,) and he told me that he never got paid for his work (not the BBC, but the production company,) and he was scared to death, when he saw them moving the finished article out of the hangar, since it didn't have any of the usual internal, stiffening, scaffolding, because it would have been too heavy for the kids to lift. I believe that it's had extra strengthening added, now.
