I know a few guys built the Vb version for the large scale planes SIG Dave, but I can't recall anyone doing this one.

From what I've seen though, all the older Airfix 1/24 scale kits are... challenging is probably the nicest way to put it ;)

Personally I'd spend the money on a 1/48 Tamiya or Eduard Spitfire - you can get the Profipack Mk IX for less than £30 & that's got lovely pe cockpit parts, canopy mask & sumptuous detail.

It can be made into a nice model but for the money you could get the new Revell 1/32 Spitfire. Large enough but a much better kit.

Cheers

Steve

It can be a tricky build mate, be prepared to dry run parts before committing to glue, take care of flash on parts and be prepared with the filler. If I remember correctly it has raised detail which can be a bugga but can be rectified or lived with if you choose.

Just take your time with it and she'll pay you back dividends with what is the largest Spitfire available to us plastic bashers.

I had one years ago and I would definitely get another one, might have to get across to hobbycraft.

I might pass, ive come to the end of my desire to do any more aircraft and want to concentrate my modelling on armour.

I've built the VB and it's a horrible kit with poor detail but if you work with it and put the effort in it does make all the hard work pay off and it's something to be proud of

I was in my local hobby craft today and there were hurricanes for the same price and as I already have both in the stash "waiting" for me(bit scary) And having recently completed the focke wulf which was a right pig to get together and having heard previous feedback I know these will be equally as bad if not worse. But having said all that I had a great feeling of satisfaction and relief ;)once it was finished

Incidentally John, what did you get for your Focke Wulf? I'm sure I saw it on eBay ;)

Hi Patrick it wasn't mine it's still here it's on the "special" shelf until it gets a sideways push by the next completed kit. :)

Wow! It looked just like yours! But I'm glad it wasn't - your one was too good to sell

Ive been told the Stuka goes together very well and have personally seen the kit finished in humbrol acrylic and it was very smart and is now on my hit list if they were selling these at £30 I'd have definitely had one but the cheapest I've seen is £60 so patience needed for a bargain one maybe in the Xmas sales :) View attachment 238076

I have just completed the Airfix Hurricane with decent results. There is an excellent cutaway model that someone has completed of the Airfix Stuka on Britmodeller, it prompted me to check prices for the kit but they are too expensive.

The 'Stuka' is of similar vintage and does show it's age. It does come with a nice engine (which might explain the cutaway model referred to above) and in my personal opinion is probably the best of the big old Airfix 1/24s. I have to confess to having built them all over the years:)

Cheers

Dave, I'm having a right pig of a time with my cars at the moment, working with gloss paint or trying to get a gloss finish using matt paints is a real pain in rear end, I'm at the point right now where I'm going to join you in armour, not like a knight, I mean like in armour modelling. I used to have a collection of Shermans and soft skins (all American stuff) and not one did I have problems with, they all went together well, any paint defects were quickly hidden with a bit of weathering, can't do that with cars unless I do barn finds (a Ferrari Enzo in a barn would be a very rare find!).

Thing is I've got a stash of cars waiting to be done........what to do........what to do!

Awww, i was all excited then, thought we were going to play knights and Dragons for a minute... My dreams are crushed! :-)

Ive got a stack of F1 cars, and two helicopters, and a spitfire, but theyre being put in the cupboard as ive now got an M1 abrams, a T60, a vickers 6 ton, A churchill heavy, and a bradley, and im just starting the paint on the panzer.

I felt that id got to the stage where the aircraft models were being a chore, and caught myself rushing to get them out the way to start armour. So i gave up, and started armour!

Dave beware! You are on your way to a huge stash. You'll end up with a room that looks like a model shop and eventually (hopefully no time soon :) ) leave 2,000 unmade kits behind you!

Cheers

He he he the only dragon I've had a fight with is my ex wife!

Now I'm fighting a stash of cars that are doing to me what aircraft did to you. There are times that I might rush a particular car just to get started on another, then I wish I had taken my time with the first one! Modellers psychology eh, I might start writing a book on it! :) ;)
