Hi all, this is my first "under construction " here

Bought this ages ago from Modelzone and it's just been sitting on a shelf so I thought I'd give it a go

I wanted to do the 2012 centennial paint scheme which is gloss black like this

Interior wise it's not having the two tone of the kit but the suede & Alcantara so I needed to Matt finish the dash & door panels, just a trial fit here after (almost) finishing the engine ( more about that later)

Bodyshell has some lovely details but poor definition so after a quick spray of primer to highlight it's had a nice smoothing off and lost some of the sharp edges,

But when you try and fit it all together the bonnet window is all wrong for a ZR1

As the lexan window showing the intercooler is one of the cars stand out features and if it's wrong it will bug me, So my new plan is to fit the window them paint over giving me (almost) this car

Which is a Z06 with the carbon body of the ZR1, only anomaly will be the front wing vents as the 7.0 litre in this car has more cooling than the supercharged ZR1

Need to Matt black these & do edges in red and re-do brake callipers to red, luckily both cars gave the same carbon discs

Will be next weekend before I do any more though

Done a little bit this evening, just a mask off and coat of dark primer, mainly to see if there's any more blemishes/poor seams.

Will leave until Saturday to cure & nib off

Looking good dave keep up the good work, i be watching this one with interest.

Just been rubbing down last night & a little earlier so no real noticeable things to update, just nibbling away with 3000 mostly and a little 1000 where there are some little lumps in the primer, can't have been as clean as I thought !

So here we are ready for body colour to be applied, been sanded, polished, washed & dried then a tack rag so hopefully no contaminants

And after a first coat of Tamiya metallic black

Thread owner
Is that from a Tamiya rattle can Dave? I've found they often dry to a satin finish until the last coats of gloss varnish.

Hi dubster, yes it is. Had two coats, there's a few tiny blemishes need nibbling off before another coat & probably finish with tamiya pearlescent lacquer

Not looking forward to the windows :-(

Arse arse arse just tried a dry fit and the engine is a bit to high in the chassis so intercooler surround (shown on yellow car) won't fit- this will require surgery.

As pleasantly surprised by the paint finish though :-)

I hate this now !

I'm made up with the body shell and paint finish, got exactly the finish I was after but far from pleased with engine & interior,

I'll re do dash & seats ( was trying to recreate the Alcantara patchy/shaded look of the real car)

Engine bay I'm need needing some help with,

I think I've just put too much paint on now and have lost detail, do I:

Strip paint off (how?)

Or scrap it & start again, it's a £10 kit after all, re use this shell with a new interior?

Oh and I've managed to smear windscreen so think I've answered my own question now !

Damn, it's a shame about the windscreen Dave, could it polish out? If you're unhappy and will always look at it and feel unhappy then I would get another kit, strip back the old one as best you can and use it for practise. Nice finish on the shell though.
