1/32 Revell BAE Red Arrows Hawk

Thread owner
So I have applied four coats of Revell 31 Red Gloss enamel. No dramas, all went well. Now onto the decals. Once these are applied I will need to seal them in with varnish before masking and painting the blue onto the tail.

Other than that I am getting there slowly.

Dont worry about the decals looking wrinkly. I have just applied the Micro Set and Sol before taking the pictures. I need to wait for these to dry before tackling the other side. Thanks for looking.

Looking very good Steve. Seats look great. Nice red finish. I imagine these aircraft would have been kept pretty pristine so minimal wear and tear.

A little bit of progress. After giving the decals on the tail a bit of gloss varnish to help protect them I masked off the tail for the Royal Blue paint, I also had a small repair to do on the nose so that was also masked off.

All went fairly well but despite my preparation I have caused a little damage to one of the decals which will need a touch up with paint later on.

One step forward and two steps back. The joy of modeling.

Well I have a small break before the start of the next GB so I have done some work on the BAE Hawk. The nose has been repainted and the white fuzz decal repaired. Today I have fitted the two ejector seats and the undercarriage. I am determined to bring this one to a conclusion within the next few days.

Thanks for looking. Sorry its taken so long but for some unknown reason I have really struggled with my mojo over this model.

Well it's been a long time on the go but nearly there now. Certainly looking good. Lovely shiny red coat. This cracking model definitely needs to get over the finish line.

I have no excuse Jim. I cant put my finger on why I kept falling in and out of love for this one. I know I stalled on the prospect of painting the resin elector seats, never done those before. They looked complicated but actually turned out to be relatively easy job. Next I was not looking forward to working with the gloss paint but again it turned out OK. Personally I am glad this one is nearly done but it will go down as my longest build to completion.

Excellent result thus far, Steve.

I think I'll take a trip into my loft, root out my effort at this kit - and put my foot on it!

Thanks Geoff. I am just trying to decide whether to give it some more coats of gloss in the hope that it may smooth it out a bit.

Cheers Ron. I wouldn't mind seeing your Hawk. I cant imagine hand painting such a large model, it's been bad enough spraying it. It looks better in the picture than it actually is.
