Hope all are well and safe ,so once again instead straight ahead to what I had planned i took a sharp right and ended up with this ,its been in the stash for some time along with the little PE set from Hauler ,no major problems went together nicely? Well apart from ,you know how you give the instructions a once over before diving in ,well look at that i thought all the glazing on the cab fits from the outside oh well saves all that put it on your finger and try to fit it from the inside stuff ,had i turned to next page i would have seen that with the cabin on the rear its fitted from the inside ,yep all built and glued up oh poo i thought ,so trimmed off the over hang part that glued to the inside wall of the cabin ,now if window falls through the appeture (posh word) no way would one ever get it back ,so stuck to a piece of masking tape it was offered up fettled offered up and so on till a snug fit was achieved ,plus the usual stick it on break it off again bissiness no other probs

So far so good ,now the chassis is black wheels and all ,dam I thought why do these things happen why can't it be green like the rest of it ,it means priming it then painting that bit black ,yeh so , I hear you all saying well I'm a lazy sod and its all a bit like hard work ,now I have always been a great supporter of rattle can primer does what it says on the tin plus no setting up airbrush and cleaning away after ,at this point I had the brain wave dived in the cupboard and found a jar of mr colour surfacer 1500 in black mmmm two birds with one stone primed and painted at the same time ,so opened up jar(must be over two years old never even used it)and stired it up with my badger whizzer then topped up with mr color self leveling thinner to base of neck whizzed it up again nope still to thick ,added thinner till I could fit no more in jar but still to heavy ,so put three paint spoons full in the air brush cup topped it with the leveling thinner and stired with paint brush ,by now I recon 30 paint 70 thinner bloody hell what a revelation misted whole thing over three or four times using same mix each time so smooth and easy to use no runs no pooling or what i call paint bombs no more rattle cans for me this stuff is the biz.

So I might even get around to the green stuff tomorrow anyway will keep it in the loop as and when it happens Dave.

Truck looking very nice Dave :thumb2:

Ive Not used the black Mr finishing primer before just the grey stuff....blacks coat looks lovely and smooth:cool:

Great finish on that Dave, it's my most used Primer by far. Most seem to use it ~50/50, but like you I prefer it thinner than that.

I've just remembered that I have this kit somewhere. I didn't know there was a PE set for it

A nice build Dave. Tidy work with the PE. Nice so see Mr Finishing Black. A nice base to add the green stuff to

Can I just say before i go any further that I layed down the primer with a sub twenty pound airbrush that I'm sure I purchased from bart sharpe a few years ago now(at least 5 ) ,a couple of months ago I fitted a new needle (three quid from bart sharpe)not having used mr surfacer before didn't want to stick it through my best one(mr color procon boy 2.0) any way decided to use same airbrush for the spray job. No real problems, I keep my compressor at just under twenty psi and if need be lower air pressure with the twidley knob thing under the air brush ,unfortunately the cheap one doesn't have this luxury so should have mucked about with pressure on compressor a bit but didn't, still cheapo a/b didn't do a bad job ,paints used were mig ammo(ones with yellow caps)thinned about forty paint sixty mr color self leveling thinner ,long way to go filters etc but will keep posting.20201007_153213.jpg

Andy i use model hobbies a lot on their header page click on detail sets for model kits and take your pick armour 1/35 ,armour 1/72 etc same with aircraft so easy saves trolling through reams of it looking for what you want hannants keep loads but cost more than anybody else,I think place's with unfriendly sites cost themselves money.

Thanks Dave, I've used them once or twice for stuff John didn't have in stock. Will have a look.

And I'm using my cheap bartsharp airbrush more than my Infinity at the moment. It's a trigger style one so much more natural for someone that uses spray guns for a living. Cheap to buy, dirt cheap parts, and perform well.

Another Bartsharp cheapo user here and it does me fine, mind you, as it's my first airbrush what do I know.

Andy.

David. Nice Truck I have several in the stash I didn’t know till you posted they made a PE for these thanks for posting

Nice progress on this Dave......you should be well pleased with what you have done so far. Rick H.

Andy as I said I have a expensive airbrush this was bought for my 60 birthday else I probably wouldn't have one pick it up and the difference is obvious its heavier beautifully engineered and yes sprays dream I didn't want to put a product through it I'd never used before so got out the old bart sharpe(to anyone out there excellent company to deal with if your thinking of starting using a airbrush give them a look). It laid the primer down ok so used it for the spray job ,would I do it again no the posh one is a pleasure to use but here is the rub as far as I'm concerned nothing wrong with what I've done I'm not all that with the shade of green but hey ho. I'm sure that Andy (Paint guy) will agree a lot of it is paint consistency and air pressure master that and you've cracked it then you get the confidence that goes with thoes two. Then if you upgrade like me you'll love it. Dave

Like I've just tried to say to other Andy just because there cheap doesn't mean there not fit for purpose I swear airbrushing is all about paint consistency and air pressure and in your trade you should know ,who's paint products you use is a diffrent story im going before I start on that one. Dave.

Nice finish Dave using that black primer has really worked with the green .
As to AB use I'm with you, all about paint to thinners mix and air pressure.Of course the tolerances are better in more expensive ones but all work in much the same way .Annoyingly !

All I want to do is to apply paint, not have to work out the mix and end up cleaning the whole thing everytime !

Yes, I absolutely agree David. Now that I'm getting more used to airbrushing I tend to thin the paint (etc.) to suit the job and size of needle I'm using (smaller needle, thinner product) then just play with the air until it's atomising well but not blowing (spidering) everywhere.

And John, that's my biggest bugbear with waterbased acrylics - I tend to spend more time cleaning than spraying  I'm finding the new AK paints better in that regard than Vallejo, but they're still not a patch on lacquer paints unfortunately. It's just a pity they are so stinky as it rules them out for many, as for ease of use and cleaning they really are night & day.

Sorry Dave, this whole thread seems to have been led astray!

Andy I don't think so I started it rolling beside we all only learn by talking to each other I suppose it is by nature quite a solitary hobby, I belong to two model clubs Poole Vikings model club(IMPS Dorset) and Poole Scale Modellers (IMPS Wessex) ive learnt so much just talking to guys at meetings their help and encouragement freely given unfortunately covid has ended any form of club meetings for the foreseeable future, like the old bt? add its good to talk.Dave oh if anybody wants a blimp their both on Facebook.
