Hi all;

Another exciting instalment in the 41(F) Sqn in 1/48 project! This is the Italeri Tornado F3; I used Pavla resin replacement seats, plus Eduard PE here and there, but nothing drastic. The kit goes together well enough, although persuasion/filing/sanding/filling was needed with the intakes - not a good fit. Decals are by Xtradecal, and show a 41 Sqn machine at RAF Coningsby in 2006; it had been repainted when the Fast Jet Weapons OEU was re-badged as 41 Sqn, hence the 'painted out' RAF Air Warfare Centre badge on the fin. Topsides were done with Tamiya Sky Grey; undersides in Tamiya Medium Grey, and the radome in Tamiya Neutral Grey.

Beautiful tonka andy!! Its a great build and perfectly weathered , the way youve got the characteristic sooty marks on the fin from the reverse thrust clamshells is perfection. Fantastic work and a superb addition to your 41 sqn collection , cheers tony

Thanks Tony! The soot from the thrust reversers is Tamiya Smoke, well thinned and misted on; thicker at the bottom

Very nice indeed Andy another great addition to your 41 SQN builds

Another great from 41 Squadron love you overall paint and weathering and realistic looking soot effects

Great build

Regards

Robert

Another quality addition to your 41SQN collection, that Tamiya smoke works well when thinned correctly and you have made it look so realistic Andy its top quality mate!

Great build!

What's next?

Phil, I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go for the Blue Max Sopwith Snipe that I've been ignoring - limited edition biplanes fill me with dread! But, if I'm to build the Sqn history, it's got to be done. 41 Sqn has asked me to display the collection at the Centenary celebrations in April, so I need to get as many done as I can. I'm still waiting for Xtradecal to bring out the 'special scheme' decals for the Typhoon in 1/48; they've done it in 1/144, so fingers crossed. Other than that, I'm waiting on a vacform Siskin from Aeroclub, and that's the final model.

I'm displaying the collection at certain shows this year - Milton Keynes, West Norfolk, Brampton and Telford. If anyone is at those, do drop by and say hello.

Good luck with the snipe and vacform Siskin!

How many is that in total then Andy and how longs it taken? You'll have to take a group shot at the end

Tamiya FW190 F8 (41 had a captured one as a hack in 1945, with 41 Sqn codes!)

So I make that 22 completed, and 4 to do! How long has it taken? 3 or 4 years so far, but I've done many other kits in that time, so it hasn't been continuous.

Only four to go, what an amazing project and collection you've created Andy. Every single addition has been top notch, and this Tornado is no different. Great job.
