That's it so far. Atm im putting some cables on the distributer and getting the shell ready for the primer.

I could do with some advice on removing the chrome palting of some parts.... I read somewhere you can use ordinary bleach and it should come straight off......

Justy plain old bleach will remove the plating pascal, theres a few threads on here somewhere. Basically i think you just soak the bits in thick bleach for a few hours and presto! ,As for the primer i always use Halfords grey (or sometimes white), it sprays nice and fine and gives a great finish for the top coat. cheers tony

This is looking great. Really enjoying what you've done so far.

I too use Halfords grey primer, nice finish and drys fairly quickly too.

Really looking forward to see how the de-chroming turns out. Always wanted to have a go at doing it.

Thanks. It's all a learning process for me.

Pretty much completed it today..... Tried doing rusty bumpers and grille, but it didn't turn out very well.... looks more muddy than rusty. Never mind.

I did give it a couple of clear coats though and looks good. The merc didn't get that.

Looks Bad to me pascal (thats good bad , not bad bad !) The rusty bumpers look fantastic , as does the satin black paint job. The grille and wheels could maybe benefit from a black wash to lift out the detail and give the impression of the holes , thats not a criticism , i still love it. Keep on rodding , looking forward to the next one ,(and im also looking out for something to have a bash at myself !!) cheers tony

Cool thank you. I've never tried "washing". I'll happily give it a go. Gotta do some research into it first on how to do that. And im not that happy with the bumpers. As i said they look muddy rather than rusty. But the overall painting came out rather nice i think.

Next up is not a hot rod..... But Ecto-1.....

Hi Pascal what a cool conversion great work With the bumbers for the rust i would have tryed just to give them some scratches and pin pricks then just painted rust colour on then give it a wipe or used a rust wash then give it a wipe but i'm not a car builder Looking forward to the Ecto-1 build

The overall effect is really good. ..... just needs that coffin

I've always likes lime green against flat black ... it just looks mean

As Tony said a black wash would emphasise the detailing on the wheels, i think you'd get away with a thinned acrylic flat black and lay the car on its side so the paint dries evenly in all the creases and doesn't dribble to the bottom of the wheel.

The rust effect that you're not happy with might be the colour thats giving the visual impression. For my rust wash i use 2 parts mid brown to one part bright red and when dried on models it seems to look ok to scale.

Ians idea of scratching the chrome and then letting the paint find it's way into the gaps then wiping off the excess is a good one (and i'll be using it myself at some time)

I actually like the bumbers as they are and would just be tempted to get some mud colour on a toothbrush and flick some spray behind the wheelarches and a bit over the wheels (after they've had a wash) so the body weathering blends in with the bumpers.

Great. Thanks for all the input and advise. I will give that black wash a go soon. And the idea with the mud on the sides sounds brilliant. Definitely will try that, too. The "rust" atm is a colour called rust..... so I think I need play around with that alot more. I found this really cool guy on youtube, Dr. Cranky (I'm sure some of you seen him) and he's bloody brilliant at explaining and showing stuff. And he does almost entirely Hot/Rat Rods. So this guy is a huge source of inspiration.....

Ecto-1 is going getting on as well. Will get a thread up soon.
