Hi Guys

Just back from a great 3 weeks holiday and I will try to catch up on all the postings over the next few days.

In the meantime here is a great book I read while on hoiday - or rather I listended to it as an audio book while sculpting some heads - yes I took some sculpting stuff with me!

The book is about the early life of Audrey Hepburn who lived near Arnham during WW2. It is a great read about her and the hardship the people of
Holland had to endure - eating tulip bulbs at one point!

i unreservedly recommend it.

I need to be pedantic here and point out that Arnhem is not in Holland but in Gelderland :)

The eating of tulip bulbs did happen in Holland, towards the end of the winter of 1944–45, known as the Hunger Winter there, and in the Netherlands in general, though it wasn’t actually a winter of hunger in large parts of the country, as those had already been liberated. One of the main reasons for the famine was that in response to Dutch industrial and railway strikes, the Germans cut off food transports to the cities. Later, German forces in Holland were eventually cut off from those in Germany, leading to more shortages, especially for the civilian population. It being a very cold winter didn’t help either.
