Hi all,

I've used Alclad Chrome before and used the base black to enhance it, what I'm wondering is what base colour I should use for Gold Titanium and Hotmetal Red?

I'm using these colours for my new Ironman figure btw :)

Some will say that the primer and base is of little importance.

However I believe that they all give the best result over a black base. If you want a high shine you will need a gloss black.

Generally they work well over black or grey primers, I have read that the colours are designed to be best over black...

As For the hot red. For the effect you are after, I would spray it chrome or polished alu' then after that has cured 110% dust the hot red over the top.

Did you know that Alclad now do Candy paint colours.....

This is similar to the trick paints I used to use in my profession. Candies/pearls/cameleon/vreeble/crackle/marble/globle /flipflop/spindrift etc.

Transparent paints are just a glaze/tint over a basecoat.

For transparent colours such as the hotmetal red, both gold and silver can be used as a basecoat, over gloss black you will probably end up with a wine/claret shade depending on how many coats of the trans you use.

It all depends on the shade/depth you want to end up with.

Try this link to see some products and an idea of colours etc available.

Anyone know what else I can use as an airbrush cleaner rather than the Alclad cleaner, even in a well ventilated area and a mask it gives me such a bad head.

i use rubbing alcohol to clean out my brush after alclad. it's cheap and cleans up all the acrylics and lacquers i've used. i'll do some lacquer thinner in there to make sure i get it all at the very end, but for the most part rubbing alcohol does the trick.
