I have loads pictures of Afganistan to help with all the Herrick range builds.


I come time and time and time again in looking for something and this picture just stops me in my search. It to me is remarkable first in the two young men plying their dedication as soldiers. For me they just look men of the Union of Britain and I am so very proud of them. They have that great nonchalance of men who are confident of their ability and yet have that laid back British we are the best.


I saw this in photographs of the Para and Royal Marine during the Falklands conflict.

Good job you spotted that Paul. That Afghan soldier could have gone the rest of his life thinking that he is English. What a bummer that would have been for him.

The soldier kneeling in the front seems to have pressed the barrel of his rifle into the ground, which I always understood was a major offence for any infantryman.

Had hoped for a more objective artistic point of view from the photography side.


Starting off with the composition of the picture by the Telegraph Photographer and optimism.

This photograph is one that I have never been able to get out of my mind, it is so awful. A young Vietnamese girl is running away from the terror of an American napalm bomb, she had been hit with napalm and her clothes had been burned off. To me it shows the terrible cruelty of war, not mention the pointlessness of most of them. Look what happened to Vietnam as soon as the yanks pulled out. What a needless bloody waste of life. This photo should never be forgotten. Wait and see what happens to Afghanistan as soon as we pull out.

That is a very poignant photo Patrick. A bit of Yomping. Produce a 30 minute film on the Falklands war using photos. This was one of many splendid albums by the news media down there. Having read most of the books about this conflict this photo tells a story. Often wondered if the photographer made the whole journey.

..... Cut the guy some slack ....... He isn't English, how is he expected to know that ? :rolleyes:

If you are viewing this on a tablet just zoom in on the tip of the barrel and you will see that it is not touching the ground but about 1/2" above it. Those two men are well trained soldiers, and as Laurie said, men you can be proud of. Reputations restored! :)

I think it is Keith, for me it captured the immenseness of space and our place in it but at the same time how we are able to find ways to exist in it, anyway now I am going to go and write some romantic poetry!! :cool: as I am suddenly feeling all profound and deep, on second thoughts I might just go and lie down.
