discussion A10 camo query

Hi, hoping some you guys will be able to help me here. I'm building the Tamiya A10 Thunderbolt 1/48 and I'm really happy with the way its going so far, I've sprayed the main green camo colour over the model and was about to start masking for the second colour, its a three colour scheme,when I noticed the instructions show the camo on the underside of the plane too, I was not planning to do this and think it might look odd. I've looked for examples of the A10 with camo all over and can't find any.

Although I'm sure the instructions are correct I'm unsure weather to paint the camo underneath or not......I know I'm asking for your opinion but it would help me to know what you guys think. Thanks.

Hello, some times the instructions can be a miss leading on schemes etc but i have found this which might be of some help...

Hi Michaelm

Have just been looking at Jan 2011 issue of SAM and there is a fine article about The A-10 including paint scheme's and the European 1 camo scheme (circa1990) does have camo onthe underside. Also in said issue is a build feature of the Hobbyboss 1/48 A-10 which has also been done with camo underside. Hope this helps

Glad I could help.

Just out of interest the old A-10 is on my to build list but have heard some nasty stories about fit issue's with Tamiya's 1/48, how's it been for you? I've always been a big fan of Tamiya kits as they usually go together very nicely.

Some of the kits i have seem to have a different single colour on the undersides.

I got that on back order for when i do my A-10, got the Trumpeter one and really looking forward to starting it.

As for what i would do.... I would go with the all over grey finish for the A-10

As long as you are happy with how you want to do it, i dont think that it matters how you do the camo. All over with the green camo could work.

Hi michael , the scheme youre doing is the Europe 1 or 'Lizard' camo. This is a continuous wrapped around camo , so the instructions are right. Several other aircraft had this scheme at one point too, the C5 galaxy and the B 1 lancer . Hi Chris, fit on the Tamiya kit is ok, not fantastic. This kit was a gift, I'd look at some others if doing another, perhaps the Trumpeter.
