Here's one of my first attempts after a bit of a break from modelling. I went a bit OTT on the weathering - I was experimenting really.

Anyway, quite a nice little kit with no real issues apart from a cowling that is in 3 separate pieces, and rather thick decals.

I finished with Vallejo matt varnish, which seems more semi-gloss to me. The decals were also quite thick.

The smudge on the left wing is my attempt to remove a child's fingerprint! I also lost the gear doors somewhere.View attachment 99675

Lovely build and finish Tony, really nice build mate ;)

Great build Tony, that looks very worn and used. Interesting debates rage over whether Japanese fighters suffered as much paint stripping as we tend to model. A good site for Japanese subjects is http://www.aviationofjapan.com

This was quite funny I thought: http://www.aviationofjapan.com/2014/04/new-emergency-modelling-law-enacted.html

Every build teaches you something new. I built the Airfix version of this and experimented with weathering like you did and wasn't that happy with my results but I did learn from it. Great effort.

I hope you'll keep sharing your work with us.

More than a few of us have been guilty of a bit of weathering here or there - I like it. And as for matt turning out satin, yes, I've had that a few times as well.

Great weathering, it leaves you wondering if it will stay together in the air.

do like this one and well done, most pic,s i see of them there all very weathered ;)

I like this very much, Tony. I'm not sure you can be OTT with the worn paintwork on the late-WW2 Japanese subjects. I've found the same as you with Academy transfers - they do need some persuading. I've always found the Vallejo matt varnish to be extremely matt. Maybe you've got part of a faulty batch, or didn't shake it till your arm dropped off.

Is the weathering really ott? I've seen pics of these looking like kicked soda cans. Awesome job Tony

I'm supposed to be building track links but after seeing this I had to fire up war thunder and shoot a few zeros out of the sky.
