This will be my first build in many years and I am going to have a go at some of the techniques that I have seen used to such good effect by others on here. Will post some pics up as I go, so hopefully will have something for you to look at in a few days.

In the past I have (relatively successfully) dry brushed the interior detail / control panel. This kit seems to have very little in the way of interior detail. As a very newbie, what could I do to lift it a bit? How do you go about making a seat harness?

Seat harnesses can, at their most basic, be made from painted strips of masking tape. At 1:48, use a domestic masking tape as it has a bit of texture. At the top end, you can buy Photo Etch pre coloured seat belts that really look good, so long as you can still see them with the canopy in place. As for boosting the detail, remember that you will not see much of it once the kit is together but by applying cables using thin copper wire or fuse wire and simple cut pieces of sprue glued to the side walls can help with getting a 3D look to it. Just study a few interior cockpit shots for guidance and aim to suggest with shapes and paint rather than re create in minute detail.

Fenlander. That's great. The canopy is a one piece so there is not much point me going heavily to town on it but I want to just add a bit more if possible. I thought belts would be relativeltyeasy to view.

Bukerbarge, I am still very much in the 'thinking about it stage' but will hopefully start putting something together in the next day or so.

Took some pics Bunkerbarge only to not be able to find them on my hard drive. Doh..

Anyway, I was going to spray the interior with some primer before pianting with interior green (humbrol 78?). Then have a go at some dry brushing in airframe silver and have a crack at some seatbelts. Any other possible (easy!) suggestions?

Wow! Are the buckle details made from masking tape as well?

No this is an etch one. I just showed you the pic so you can see the detail a little clearer. but you could make the buckles out of wire if you so wished

You could open the canopy with a razor saw, however the plastic is typically far too thick for the rear to sit over the fuselage correctly for an open cockpit without remedial work

Could have it open if you bought a vacform canopy from someone like Hannants

I've just finished building the Hasegawa 1:48 Hurricane Mk1 and on that too I had to get a vac-formed canopy to be able to pose it open. Both the Airfix and Hasegawa canopies are too think to be able to open them. I used the windscreen sawn off from the Hasegawa canopy and the vac-formed canopy for the rest.

I can understand why you wanted the canopy open. The Front office in that looks very good.

How would you compare the two Hurricanes, which do you think is the better, the Hasegawa or the Airfix. I see that Italeri are coming with a 1/48 Hurricane too!

I want a Hurricane but would like to know a bit more about the kits on the market as It will be an internet purchase. Cat in a sack springs to mind....

Without a question its the Hasegawa, but you pay for the pleasure! Took me several attempts to win one on eBay and it was about £30, however its a lovely model, good detail and add the Eduard cockpit set and it is beautiful!
