Was posting some stuff off this morning in my local post office/newagents and saw they had a few revell and airfix kits for sale, i saw this one and thought it looked good so bought it. Ive not done an airfix kit for years and although its not too bad i can see quite a bit of filler being needed. The kit has 1969 on the inside i guess the mouldings for this kit are that old?

Got the interior together and painted in no time and started on the pilot, jesus i thought 1/35th figures were a pain to paint. Then got the fusalage glued and some filler on the go.

Nice to get a kit with a display stand, you should get these with every kit.

You need to change the age of pos ts shown bottom left of page, its set at 2 weeks, took me a while to find it

Just me that is stupid then lol. I bet people go in there and think there is nothing for swaps. Will have a word with the boss.

That one doesn't look bad, I recently got a Spit vs BF110, (I think) and took one look, closed the box and filed it under give to someone else at some point.

It is awful, the wings are one piece, the mouldings for the Spit look quite inaccurate, the canopies for both are poorly cast and rough.

A real dissapointment as I was looking forward to building it, i'm just glad I didn't buy it from the shop when I was looking a few weeks before for full price, unfortunately based on this I wouldn't buy another dogfight doubles without being able to have a good shufty in the box.

The trouble is that the Dogfight Doubles range was introduced to breathe a bit of life into tired old mouldings. That must have been around the early seventies though so you are probably looking at mouldings quite a bit older than that. I sem to remember the Meteor and the Flying Bomb were relatively new.

The Spit and the 110 mouldings must be going back to early sixties so not surprising they were a bit of a shock. I would build it though just to enjoy the experience of reliving how we used to make models fourty years ago, in the days when my Dad was teling me that these new fangled plastic models were not real models and were cheating as all the work was done for you.

Just to point out that the Boss has done his twiddling and the Swap Shop now defaults to showing everything so hopefully, everyone will see what is in there OK.

Cheers John, nice one.

That looks like it will come out really good. I find with 1/72 pilots is, " less is best " meaning if you try adding too much detail they tend to look a bit messy. But yours looks spot on.It's nice to see you haven't used the 2 black dots for eyes method some use but just using the flesh tone colour to represent the face.

well done

I completely agree with the figure painting. If in any doubt do less and I would strongly recommend that you do not even try to do eyes at anything smaller than 1/35th. If you take a photo of a face and reduce it so that the size of the face is the same as a 1/35th scale figure can you see the whites of the eyes? I've done this a number of times and always found that I couldn't. I do a base colour then a wash and finally dry brush some highlights on when I'm doing 1/72nd figures. I know the wargaming lads would throw thier hands up in horrow and say you should be using two highlight shades and two shadow shades but it's importnat to stay within your capabilities and be happy with the result rather than try something extreem and get very frustrated when it goes wrong.

Ok all primed, then sprayed dark sea grey. I then masked of the camo pattern and sprayed dark green.

Cant help but think the recomended green is too light a colour? Its Vallejo model air dark green What do you guys think?

Edit ok ive had a good look at pics of the real thing online and it seems that the green colour varied alot in darkness so i should be ok i think.

The Dark Green colour seems to have weathered quite quickly, particularly on aircraft operating at high altitudes and therefore high exposures to UV radiation. The colour is supposed to be fairly olive and weathered, depending on the paint,to various shades. Sometimes it seems to have gone almost brown!

Our perception of a colour is very much influenced by its context, meaning,in a camouflage scheme, the colour it is next to.

Cheers

I decided to respray the entire model and usd a darker green this time.

All finished and i have to say it was a nice kit to put together, with no real dramas at all.

I decided against putting the v1 on the display stand and will get a eurofighter to display with it, First jet fighter and the latest one. For now my revell spitfire is on ther with it.

Let me know what you think, good or bad.
