View attachment 56435Here is the new tooled Airfix 1/72 MiG 15 . A very important aircraft that hasnt had a decent accurate tooling until recently. This release from Airfix puts that right . Ok its not perfect but its very good, and at around £8 its a bargain too. The kit is in the now standard Airfix top opening box ,with nice CG artwork and the 3 decal options on the side. The bottom tray also has a series of tips ,helpful for younger modellers , round the sides.View attachment 56436

The kit is moulded in soft grey plastic with recessed panel lines and consists of 51 pieces plus 1 clear canopy

.View attachment 56438View attachment 56439View attachment 56440View attachment 56441The cockpit is comprised of a tub with separate instrument panel ,simplified but accurate seat and joystick . The side consoles and main panel are represented by decals and a standard Airfix pilot is included. This pilot is the WW2 type but is fairly representative as hard helmets were not always worn at this time. The rest of the airframe looks to be very good with separate airbrakes with detailed interiors , detail in the U/C bays, and very good main legs. The main wheels however ,look a tad undersize but this is no big issue. The nose intake goes back quite a way and looks fine but the jet pipe is very shallow and would benefit from opening up and lengthening , maybe with a piece of drinking straw .Two types of drop tanks are included and the excellent looking decal sheet includes 3 options -soviet af in natural metal , hungarian af in 3 colour camo and Korean af in the squiggly line scheme.

View attachment 56437View attachment 56442View attachment 56443The decal sheet includes the wing walkways and a very comprehensive set of stencils , 2 different colours depending on which option is selected. All in all i think this is a great value , well detailed kit , some people may think the panel lines are too deep but under a few coats of paint they should be fine. I can only congratulate Airfix on a super choice of kit and a great all round job, how many other kits at this price have 3 decal options and a super decal sheet with full stencils? In summary a 5 star effort from Airfix and i hope the rest of their new releases are as complete. tony

Thanks for the review Tony. I've been thinking about getting a MiG 15 to go with my F86 Sabre. Wonder if they'll ever come out as a "Dogfight Double".

Cheers.

Tony.

Thanks too for the review, been scared to buy Airfix after not so good experience with an old tool, but would soooooo much like to get a nice Mig15 kit. Might give this one a go.

Hi, they actually released both kits together, but were only available through the Airfix club as a limited edition. They pop up Fleabay from time to time.

Cheers, Neil
