Good morning all
Thanks to Colin for suggesting this....this is hopefully going to be a mojo kickstart, having been laid slow by a nasty viral infection for over two months from just before Christmas. Also apologies not being around as much as I have been in the past, getting decent forum time is not easy for various reasons.
I've not had a chance to do my usual research but yet but as I understand the XVIII was essentially the same as the XIV but with a specifically newly designed/strengthened wing to allow it carry ordnance i.e. bombs and rockets, plus a few other minor modifications. It also missed combat in Europe by a couple of weeks and so only a relatively small number were built - at least in comparison to other marks.
It did though see combat in Malaya and also served with the Indian Air Force, and those are the two marking options you get.
The kit itself is apparently the Airfix XIV kit, plus a sprue for the bombs and rockets. I've found an in-depth build review online and there are couple of fit issues I might need to deal with plus some minor inaccuracies, which I will probably ignore - as they really are pretty minor. The review is here in case you're interested https://www.keymodelworld.com/article/airfix-148-spitfire-mkxviii-full-build.
I'll be doing this OOB and without any additionally detailing in the cockpit e.g. Eduard PE, as I'll be using the pilot and so you won't be able to see most of it with him in there.
I'm also leaning towards the Indian version at the moment because although a rocket firing Spit is very appealing, I will be building plenty of RAF Spits in the future and so Indian markings will be a bit different.
Obligatory box, sprue and destruction shots below.
ACW as usual
Andrew
