Qatar Airways yesterday denied it had placed a firm order for 20 Boeing 777 aircraft, hours after the Chicago-based plane maker issued a statement saying the Persian Gulf carrier agreed to buy aircraft worth as much as $4.9-billion (U.S.).

We are still in talks with Boeing about the 777s and there are technical issues to be addressed, said Salam al-Shawa, Qatar Airways head of communications. The deal is not finalized yet.

Boeing earlier said in a statement the Qatari state-owned carrier was the buyer of 14 777-300ERs and six 777-200LRs that had been previously attributed to an unidentified customer.

The press release was issued prematurely, Boeing spokesman Jim Condelles said.

virgin airlines now only buy airbus aircraft..... it seems boeing seem to be losing market share....

Didn't I see a news item recently that explained the new 380 has some technical issues as well that were taking longer to sort out than was anticipated.

I beleive it was to do with laying in cables for entertainment systems and they had the wrong cable installed or something.
