When I was a nipper in the 70's I would take my hard earned One pound fifty from my paper round down to Grants model shop in Charminster road, Bournemouth, Turn left as you went in the door an spend ages looking at the stacks of car models there deciding which one to buy. Still one of my happiest memories. The most attractive were, of course, the American show cars and Hot Rods, by Revell, Mongram , AMT and others (at the time Airfix were offering models - in plastic bags, remember that? - of Vauxhall Victor estates and Triumph Heralds....boring ) and this was one of them.
It was never a real car - some of them were - and I believe it was designed by Tom Daniels who did a lot of work for the model manufacturers, but it looked interesting. The ones that really stick in my mind are the selection of show cars credited to Bob Riesner : the Sand Draggin', the Outhouse, the Pink Panther, the Bathtub and the Invader. All of these were real cars , some have been rebuilt and can be seen at Galpin motor sports in the USA. The kits at that time, the 70's , were made by Eldon, but later reissued by Kyosho and are are really difficult to find now, even in America, but, boy, would I pay more than 1.50 to get one!
I found this one, which is a re-issue, in one of the few model shop in the middle of France so I grabbed it for nostalgias sake.
its not a difficult build of course but brought back a few happy memories.Beer Wagon Model.webp
