I had a week down in Dorset, stayed near Bridport where a recent tv series was filmed. One day we made a visit to my old stomping ground, Bovington Tank Museum. I thought some of our armour fans might like to see some tank pics....

Nice one Barry, many thanks for posting matey. I see some future projects there too.

Have fun, John

Yes very nice pictures Barry.

Got 7 days holiday to sort in September & one choice was in the Poole area. Now this has matured my thoughts & it will be Wareham way

Visited Bovington must be 20 years ago. Go to revisit.

Barry did you get to the "Lawrence of Arabia" T E Lawrence's (as pronounced aurence in the film) delightful little residence. His museum used to be attached to the Tank Museum but was moved to its rightful place where he lived.

Can see I will be model "tanking" if I visit Bovington.

Laurie

Thinks!!!! Can I get a self catering in the triangle between Bovington Tankers, Yeovilton Fleet Air & The Army Flying Museum Middle Wallop Hampshire. All I have to do is fill in with spectacular gardens for the rest of the holiday for my mad keen Horticulture type wife. Sure that I can fit in at least two of them. Am I sure ?

Hi Laurie

We stayed in West Bay, Bridport (where Broadchurch was filmed (as we didn't see it I am now under orders to get the dvds..!!!!!)

It is a great location and well positioned for Bovington (45 mins away) and Yoevil (similar distance but did not get there, next time....) Kept the missus happy with some excellent pubs and restaurants and the Jurassic coast walks, as a price for a day in Bovington. Some very good shopping and picturesque villages around there so there is plenty of stuff with which to 'trade time'. A bit far perhaps for Middle Wallop though.

At the tank museum there is still a Lawrence of Arabia display but we did not get to his home. I did try to stir up interest in that by showing the missus the Peter O'Toole film as, amazingly, she had never seen it. It did not work alas, Lulworth Cover won out on that one!

Well worth a revisit and also to go on one of the guided tours. We did the Trench Experience one. A brilliant day.

The first time I was there was in 1970 when I was stationed across the road from the museum. We used to dive across to buy Tammy tank kits from the museum shop. Went back when my kids were young about 20 years ago and a lot has changed all for the better with a lot of Lottery money being well spent there.

Just noticed, my lady is caught in one of the photos in a pink cardy - she is not keen on having her pic on-line..... never mind, she wont see this - I hope....:damnit::bangin:

Thanks for the info Barry.

Sherborne mid way. Like the "trade time" expression. May get in Bovington & Yeovilton stretching it to 3 is pie in the sky.

Matter of interest if you put in search Aircraft museums Wikipedia lists the lot world wide including of course the UK en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aerospace_museums.

Laurie
