discussion Brush painting matt while for u/c bay and landing gear

Has anyone got some advice for the best way to brush paint matt while acrylic for undercarriage bay, landing gear etc? In order to get a good white finish I'm having to use at least 4 coats of thinned paint, but I think that in doing so I am loosing some detail under the paint on some parts.

Thin coats, as you are doing, is the way to go. Are you painting directly onto the plastic? The base colour of the plastic may well affect the top coat covering. One way to make life easier is to use a primer, either light grey or white.
White, along with yellow and red, is one of the most awkward colours to use at the best of times.

I have not used a base colour - will try next time. Thanks for the tip!

If you are using Vallejo paints underpaint white with something like ivory or light sand. They cover better and you should only need two or three coats of white to cover properly afterwards. Thin coats is also the way to go.

For completeness, as Jim has mentioned red and yellow, underpaint red with cavalry red and yellow with rose pink. Both cover well and will give a better depth to the top coats.

I was going to say Vallejo Light Sand too - one of the best bits of advice I've ever got from youtube.
