annoying forgot my car insurance is up end of oct,. so had alook at few comparison sited and to my horror and shock , to renew on basically the same details as last year, and same car but with another year of no claims and even lowed the value of the car the price was £100-£150 more than paid last year???? I checked on couple sites and was the same all over!!!! but cant understand why ?? and why such a price hike??? I thought was supposed go down, as has in past??? does anyone understand why???

just really annoying especially now as with being on benefits and just had that cut by 2/3, im struggling financially , am trying sell some bits so can got to telford but looks like wont be going now.

You haven't moved areas have you ? The post code makes a lot of difference.

Even a no fault claim / accident will increase your policy.

Because of postcodes and rip off insurance companies that are greedy, they have you over a barrel as you need insurance. I have always said I want insurance based on my car, my claims etc, not where I live. If you get a life policy or home contents you pay for what you need not on next door's health or contents. I know there is more risk in a vehicle but why should we all have to pay for idiots and imbeciles who have no insurance or flaunt the law, try to claim for everything. Don't get me started, already can feel the blood pressure rising.

I found a site one time that showed you your general Ratings companies use based on your location, they combined that with your credit rating and gave you your interest rate. Was shocking what it said about different areas.

no same car same address etc, no changes to last years, if anything I lowed the value and decreased mileage as don't travel much now either....

It might be worth trying with your previous mileage, there might be a lower mileage cut-off below which they decide you don't drive often enough and your skills will degrade and therefore you are more likely to be involved in an accident. Or you may have gone over an age related trigger. Don't wish to pry but did the employment situation change since last time, your job can also affect the premium.

My Dad used to be a theatre manager and his premiums were high, he was told it was because he might have a star in his car when he had an accident which would cost them a fortune.

If you haven't already got one try an anti-theft device, I know some companies give a discount even if it is just one of the steering wheel lock thingies.

Come and live in Jersey. My insurance is just £152 per year. That includes a £20 brokers fee.

The dark side. My son ( 35 and has driven for 15 years) lives in Stratford London. Bought a 10 year old Ford for £700. Cost over a £1000 for insurance.

Rob I think that was probably de Carteret family.

The de Carterets, from which your family probably descends, came from France in the

1200's and were loyal to the English Kings rather than Normandy. For that he had the

St Ouens Manor House built and became famous in Jersey and at the court of English Kings.

Helps little with your insurance Rob. But of interest.

I read recently that the trend for offering young people cheaper insurance in return for their using a tracking/data collection device in the car to ensure safe driving, has raised premiums for older drivers. I seem to remember this was by about 10% - may not account for your £100+ increase though, Rob.
