I've never had a lot of success using hair spray chipping - too unpredictable and inconsistent results. However I do get on with dedicated chipping fluids.
My question is will they work with lacquer paints like MRP or SMS? If I prime then base coat with MRP, add a layer of chipping fluid and top coat with MRP can I then chip back with water?
Now I know I should just experiment and find out for myself but it's too hot today and I'm sure someone will have the answer :)(y):)
Thanks in advance

Jim, it can be done but it's a lot of work to actually get it to start chipping as the water won't permeate through the laquer paint and re-activate the chipping solution very easily,

your best bet is the use acrylics when 'chipping' as the water will work it's way through and re-activate the chipping solution underneath it.

Thanks Chris. I suspected that might be the case.

I've done it with Mr color lacquers Jim. It does work, but as Chris says, it's harder work than water based acrylics.

In one way that's a good thing, as you can get more control as the process is slower, just be very light with your layers or it's really difficult to break through to the hairspray underneath.

Thanks guys. No matter the question this forum guarantees quick, polite and helpful answers.
When this heatwave ends I think I'll have to spend a day or two experimenting.

It’s a good idea to test these things out Jim, be interested to see your findings 🤓
