So, for my ninth MiG-21 related build, the Ye-50 mixed power interceptor prototype. Somewhere in here is another Trumpeter F-7-II!
The Ye-50 was developed from the Ye-2A MiG-21 prototype, as a mixed rocket/jet powered interceptor. Three were converted from Ye-2As, and the first one flew in June 1956. While they had the highest performance of any of the pre -21s, they were very 'short-legged'. One was damaged beyond repair over-shooting the runway, landing after a rocket test, an other destroyed by an engine fire. An improved ye-50 was proposed, but never built
