Well, another OOB build, of the Retrokit 'Analog' conversion kit to a MiG-21. It's practically a kit in itself, and the only kit parts will be the canopy and undercarriage - all Eduard

The 'Analog' was built, ostensively, as a test of the wing form of the Tu-144 supersonic airliner. Various hitches and delays meant that the 'Concordski' flew before the Analog was ready, and ended up using a different wing form anyway! Must get myself a Tu-144 kit...
Two aircraft were built, 02 survives in Monino, parked next to a Tu-144, and is the markings in the kit. I'm going to do 01, which has a slightly different spine, and a much more attractive white, blue and natural metal scheme

Should be straightforward

Somethings are so straightforward
Others. Not so much

So, in detaching the 'plane from the mould base, I managed to break off part of the engine surround. A clean break though, so it glued back on easy enough

As I'm doing the first Analog, I'd either need to re-work the kit spine and tail. Or take one out of the copious spares I now have

You get some idea of the differences here
The wing shape of the model does seems to closer follow that of the first Analog, but it wouldn't take much work to moidify it.
Not that I'm going to
IMG_4156.webpSpine an d tail on, with no difficulties at all. The scars from where the mould piece came off may not be so easy to deal with tho'

And finally a new strake for the underside, straight out of 20 thou placcy
Just need to smooth out the blemishes next

Undercarriage main legs added, plus actuators out of bras rod and tube, as there don't seem to be any in among the big box o' copious spares. Also added a small strip under the starboard wing for the trailing edge piece, as it doesn't seem to be present IMG_4159.webp
This time around, even though the bird is mostly silver (or possibly light grey, more checking needed!), I've gone for a white undercoat. The spine, tail and a few other parts are white, so this makes masking for whatever the main colour turns out to be easier
And it showed up where the rear fuselage filler needed some attentionIMG_4160.webp
If I didn't have four others on the go, this might have been done by now
Or not

Doesn't it just though

Imagine the MiG version of a Saab Draken. Well, now you can!
