discussion Cigarette Boxes - Sizes

Strange question I'm sure but as a lifelong non-smoker I don't have a Scooby Doo; can anybody provide sizes (and possibly views) of Lucky Strike and Malborough cigarette cartons (not individual packs - I have those - ) for use in a forthcoming 'Nam diorama? Thanks in anticipation.

Yup! The individual size eludes me though! Were there 10 packs of 20 per carton or 5? Cartons of 100 or 200? My brain hurts - were they different types or different eras? :thinking:

Cartons were generally of 200 ( 10 X 20 ), 2 layers of 5 - I'm not sure, but I think the American ciggies were all in a soft pack


Each packet was either 85mm or 100mm high ( possibly difference between filtered/unfiltered? ), 85mm wide & 18 deep. These are obvious metric conversions of US non-metric packs. Not sure when flip-top packs were introduced, but US ciggy soft packs were still going when I smoked ( 25+ years ago ). The US military issued ciggies in ration packs until 1975!

They changed it from that weird green to white during the Second World War, and advertised it as the colour being needed for the war effort (which was, of course, nonsense — but I suppose they felt it would help them sell more cigarettes).

I notice the red one says “Made in the U.S.A. for export” so those most likely wouldn’t be seen with American soldiers in Vietnam, I would think.
