having read lots on the klear floor Polish I decided to experiment with some floor Polish we use at work it's acrylic and smells just like the varnish I already use. I tried it on some clear plastic and it dries crystal clear so I'm now trying it on a test model painted with vallejio acrylics and so far it's had no detrimental effect to the paint I'll next try applying it over decals, so fingers crossed that I have found a very cheap alternative . Is there any other test I should do ?

Dave

One test you could do is bring a job lot home with you, bottle it and sell it to us at mates rates!

On a serious note, you could see how well it polishes up and whether it rubs away etc? :)

And cheapness is the point. Some ascribe all sorts of magical properties to Future/Klear but it too is just a cheap alternative to branded model varnishes. It sounds like you've found another one.

The only thing I can think to look out for is if your new varnish blooms or whitens when decal softeners are used. If it does make sure another application of the varnish cures the problem.

Cheers

I for one would be happy to buy some, seeing as i can nly find Klear or Future on Ebay!

Seems impossible for me to find elsewhere!

Dave . See you come from Paignton. Love Dartmouth,Paignton and that area have always wanted to go on the railway. Times have never suited.

Have you been on the trip and what is it like ? Have done the Dartmouth Totnes river trip which is top notch.

Paignton sea front is real English with the huts and typical sea front activities.

Eh?? Future is stocked by Tesco & Sainsbury - there must be one near you!

Hey patrick, i have been round my tesco but none there,

Ill look online as they may have it at bigger tesco,

Just looked at teaco online, looked in floor cleaners, polish but nothing.

Future doesnt bring anything up, nor Klear nor johnsons. Hence why i struggle to get it!

Fingers crossed! Although I've relegated Future to just canopy dipping - Humbrol Clear is my preferred gloss these days.

But I do so miss the old Klear! What's even more heartbreaking is that 4 years ago I bought a box of 12 bottles for £5 & lost them in a house move :(

They'd be worth a fortune now!

Not quite Paignton I'm on the Exe. Estuary but yes we have been on the railway to Dartmouth I'm a boat person so love it there we've missed the steam on the mainline this year since Network rail pulled the plug on them.

The pledge stuff just isn't the same as the old Kleer, the old Kleer was well ummmmmm clear, the pledge stuff isn't, it just doesn't perform as well as I expected.

Hi Laurie, I've done the steam trip from Paignton to Kingswear and back a couple of times, not done the paddle steamer 'Kingwear Castle' yet but seen her operating a tour when we went down to visit Dartmouth Castle earlier this year.

A lovely place to sit and watch trains when down at Kingswear is just up from the station on what would be the upside, there's a path that runs from the station up through a boatyard and along the edge of the river Dart, it's a beautiful place to be.

We've done a trip from Paignton to Exmouth thanks to First Great Western, that was a great trip up through Torquay on to Newton Abbot then along the sea wall at Dawlish and then on to Exeter, where we then travelled on the other side of the estuary to Exmouth. I'm pretty sure we went through Cockwood where the other Dave lives........lots of Daves!

Paignton sea front is great but most of the time we go elsewhere during the summer as there are too many 'grockles' (tourists), the cost of parking rockets, the beach huts take up valuable parking places when the council relocate hundreds of sheds for the grockles, so us locals have nowhere to park if we wanted to! But hey ho that's the seaside for you!

I love the sea front this time of year though especially if there's a good rough sea, tide in and the waves crashing combined with the occasional steam trip along the coast past Goodrington.........perfect! :) :)

Very much loved that place Dave. Produced a video film of the place. Very nice the projected

video on the walls of the guns being fired.

Agree the Exe estuary on both sides is a fine place to be. Just as Jersey the crashing waves

are just sight to see.

Dawlish a lovely little town with the water running down the culverted streams and the lawns just above the sea front.

Laurie

We loved Dartmouth Castle, has a special air about it, lots of history and a sense that you are not alone!

The gun room fascinated me.

My sister in law lives in Dawlish and by all accounts the lawns are under water at present due to floods, no doubt attributed to the local council not clearing out the crud from the grids as the stream steps down to the sea, all part of the council trying to save money by reacting to events rather than 'wasting' money on regular maintenance, thing is the guys can't find the grids to clear them out because it's flooded and the black swans have confused them further by using their extended paddling facilties! o_O:confused:
