I entered my Northumbrian Smallpipes, my Passion Cannon and Cannonball Wagon, and C.S. Forester's The Gun in the Sonoma County (California) Fair, and took a First-Place & Best of Show for the pipes, and a First for the Passion Cannon set, and a 2nd Place for Forester:

This is my first model and wood-work contest entries, ever! I was definitely pleased to get a Best of Show!

Proves the worth of the advice of the late Commander (Rear Admiral) Edward Ellsberg, who said "It doesn't pay to quit until you're dead."

A County Fair in America is an annual event, which began when America was more rural. They are still centered around the traditional agricultural base. There are contests for cattle and sheep, horse racing, baked goods contests, contests for sewing, painting, photography, mechanics, doll-making, model-building, and a few more, and of course various entertainments, including well known pop culture entertainers. As may be seen, most of those categories are traditional.

In those earlier times, communication was slow, and these fairs were a big form of entertainment and a chance to meet with folks who lived far away. A State Fair is a very similar occasion, on a larger scale.

Such festivals are a mixed descendant of various English and other European agricultural and market fairs.

HTH,

Regards, John

I must have missed this whilst I was briefly off line. I'd like to add my congratulations. That's a just reward for some terrific models.

Cheers

Steve
