You could have asked for a postal vote, they cost you nothing except the ink in your pen and a walk to the post box. You can even spoil your vote and that would be counted.

A first for me in this election! I actually have known one of the major candidates for over 15 years - we used to take part in the local quiz league, and in a small town I often used to bump into him. Very odd, an actual person, rather than a face on a flyer!

Not judging anyone with this comment, there are many factors that can make voting difficult, when I could still vote in the UK elections half the time my postal ballot form arrived on or after the day of the vote.

Many years ago in a class on civics the teacher explained: You have the Right to vote, you also have the responsibility to use that vote.

Here in Belgium it is mandatory to turn up and vote, although you have the choice to say “none of the above”.

This country is screwed whoever you vote for your only chance is to vote for someone outside of the two main parties so they don't get a majority.

Well I think all our politicians, from whatever party, are decent, honest, trustworthy people who have our best interests at heart. I know that because they've told me so in their leaflets, on TV and sometimes in person.

Done mine Chris, went for a postal vote a couple of local elections ago, far better.

You do: just ensure the ballot is incorrect. Select more people than you’re allowed to, for example, or write something on it that’s not supposed to be there. Exact rules for what makes a ballot (in)valid vary by jurisdiction, of course, but here in the Netherlands it is as soon as anything more has happened than colouring in one and only one of the boxes using a red pencil. For “none of these people” you just colour in two or more boxes, or you write something on the sheet — like “I don’t want to vote for any of these people” — or draw a smiley face on it. Any of this makes it invalid and thus, a vote for nobody.

That's different though Jakko, a spoiled ballot just shows the voter's laziness, whereas a "none of the above" vote would indicate the voter's dissatisfaction with all the candidates.
