discussion diorama landscaping plasters

Hey peeps...any ideas for a good plaster in the UK to use for landscaping on to a base at all. I have no idea if a normal plaster your can get from a DIY store would do or a specific modelling/craft plaster that is sold for that use. Any recommendations?

Plaster

Standard wall plaster is relatively coarse stuff but may do for the scale you are working.

For a very fine white plaster you need plaster of paris available from model and art shops.

You can also get plaster of paris bandages if you know someone who works in a hospital with an A&E department, which you cut to length, wet and smooth over your base shapes.

I've used this for a non-modelling job and it worked well.

For casting I use a variety of plasters from here www.maragon.co.uk/arts-and-crafts.html#Init and sculptamold from here www.ngtrains.com/Pages/Scenic/sculptamold.htm .

For landscaping, contours and muddy ruts I always use grey floor tile adhesive. It is in a powder form and mixed with water it produces a consistancy of cement. It doesn't crack and can be moulded into fairly intricate shapes, bricks, pavings, walls and the like. One of my dioramas even has a snowman made of the stuff!

It is very cheap, costing around £6.00 for a 10kg bag! ( you can get 5kg too)
