How many dioramas do members construct compared to models made?

Good question! as a non diorama builder I'm interested to see the answer myself.

Hi mate,

I don't make many dioramas. I like the focus af attention to be on the model only. Once i've completed a model, i may put it onto some ground such as paving, grass, disrt track or something to give some effect but real proper dioramas - none yet but i will be doing one soon for my Kubelwagen. Personally for me if i was skilled enough then maybe i would :)

I think this one might provoke some strong differences of opinion! My personal belief is that the model is the 'star' & a dio is there to show it off, like a frame for a picture. Other people make the dio as important as the models in it. Whichever way is cool as some dios are fantastic (Ron)-maybe I just can't be bothered with all that extra work! Patrick

As a non dioramist I have to say that I am very impressed by many posted here. It's not just the skills needed to build them but the thought and planning of the lay out, right down to the "minor" details that make them so believable. More power to you guys, I can only look on enviously.

I personally have always concentrated on the model but that has been my preference (I find myself wavering of late!) I don't see any dioramas eclipsing the model or vice-versa. I suppose that is part of the skill, making the various elements compliment each other.

Cheers

My percentage for dioramas is currently zero! I'm finding it next to impossible to finish any kits - let alone the background for them!

I remember reading some guy's comment on dioramas on the web somewhere. He said it was OK for guys to count the rivets on their kits, but if they're doing dioramas they should also count the blades of grass!

He's got a point there. It's no good lavishing all your care and attention on the kit without the same for the background. A poor background will spoil a good kit and vice versa. I just don't have the time to do both - however much I want to. And I do!
