Typical of Johns generosity so here we go folks who would like John to get the pic sign on here! then he cant refuse (As admin he probably sees gifts etc as unfair on the rest of us) but This is such a small thing that we can do to show our appreciation towards his efforts then im all for it!

Not to hijack this thread...you Brits are doing a nice job immortalizing the Hurricane into poem, but I am curious.

A few years back I recall a special on some plane remains that were found under London....went down in a dogfight I believe...was that a Spitfire or Hurricane? I recall the Merlin's engine having an intact ID tag on it!

i think it was a hurricane

and it has my vote (to be honest i dont care who i send it to its only the price of a stamp (about the same as being made a mod? :P )

edit...

Buckingham Palace's savior dies

Ray Holmes, a World War II fighter pilot who rammed a German plane to prevent a direct hit on Buckingham Palace, has died. . . Sgt. Holmes spotted a German Dornier bomber lining up to attack the palace on Sept. 15, 1940, and, finding he had run out of ammunition, the pilot from 504 Squadron slammed into the bomber, slicing off its tail.

Holmes, from Wirral in northwest England, parachuted to safety, while his Hurricane plane crashed at 400 mph behind Victoria Station, well away from the palace.

The German bomber plunged into the station's courtyard. The German pilot also survived the incident, which was captured on film.

From the Guardian. We noted the excavation of Holmes' plane last year here.

Why don't you scan it at a nice high resolution, post it somewhere and we can all download it and we can all have it.

You can chuck the original in the bin then and save postage as well.

Sorted, that's engineers for you.

Thread owner

Richard,

Sorry, I was actually only kidding. I really don't want to put you to all this trouble.

Seriously, just post it to who you think is the most deserving member.

So have we decided who the lucky person is for this?

It could be put on ebay and the proceeds given to charity, oh sorry is that another idea, forget I said that :)

Richard W,I bet that you did not expect such a complicated scenerio as this did you ? post it to Nigel who can be the custodian of this very nice Hurricane picture,we can always think of another gesture towards John in the future, although I know he would not want anything, thats fair comment.

Nigel you will have it,now give Richard your address please !!

Ode to the Hurricane pilots.

From Ceaser to Hadrian, the foreign legions came,

To defeat our small island, we were such easy game,

They thought, as they saw us with armour so frail,

That here is a weak one, so how can we fail?

The might of our foes was awesome indeed,

But they never suspected such a fierce bulldog breed,

Upon us they came from so far and so wide,

But they just couldn’t beat us, however they tried.

And sometimes our stars, the Spits and the Lancs,

Seemed to take all the glory, and most of the thanks,

But remember, I beg you, when you think of their gains,

That we owe most of all, to the brave Hurricane.

Steve.
