Doug's 1/48 - KA27 Helix by Hobby Boss

Cheers Joe, I have to admit I was mega impressed at the detail that became evident when I wiped the wash from the rotor blades. All the pockets well defined. I like the paper towel around the tweezer tip, that may just get me past the finishing post this time.

HI Doug yes the guys are right its as ugly as hell but you have built a fine model there an why did SWMBO stop your play ?

Update.
I managed to remove 95% of the wash so still some fine tuning. The tip about the tweezer with some paper wrapped round the points worked and also nicking a couple, (lots), of my wife's more expensive cotton buds was a great help getting into the smallest gaps.
The masking both tape and liquid were removed from the windows. Looks way better now although I have been asking why I bothered doing so much interior work!!!!! Can see very little of the innards!!!!

However!!!:( I hit two snags. One of the pilots tiny hand holds has vaporised:eek:!! No idea where it's gone!! (I haven't thrown anything away so hopefully it'll turn up - one day). The second and more annoying, one of the front transparent panels is scored:mad:. I'll have to live with it I guess, way too deep to even think about polishing out.
I was too angry with myself to take pics. If the weather improves I will venture into the garage to snap a couple.
Until then, I hope the weather is better where you are.

Rain stopped for a short while so took a couple of shots. You can see the score on the front lower transparent section (Red Arrowed No 1). Really annoyed with myself!! Arrowed No 2 is the starboard pilots hand hold, it's the port side that has disappeared into the ether!!!

A little more cleaning up and I can add some smoke and exhaust colouration!!

C&C's welcome as ever.

That's all folks

No way will it turn out well but lessons learned!!! (I hope). I was quite pleased until I took the tape off!! Thanks for popping in Steve.

Just catching up with your build Doug, you’ve done a superb job as usual 😊

I wouldn’t call it ugly though more functional, certainly unique.

I find micro brushes useful for cleaning small, awkward areas if it’s any help for the future 👍

Geoff.

That is a shame Doug but I think we have all experienced something similar. The model still looks amazing. Is it worth trying to get a replacement part either from the manufacturer or putting the shout out in the "Parts wanted" thread on this forum. I wish I could advise you on a repair but I havent got a clue how to go about doing it.

Frightening - scared the living crepe out of me. But that Flory wash - yeah, very nice ‘stuff’.

Thanks Geoff. Certainly functional. I do like the coaxial rotor head. Complicated but does the job. A lot more stable in the hover I’m told. Cheers about the micro brushes. (Xmas looms so added to my wish list).

Steve, during my prolonged absence, I have had much time to think upon the parts. The hand grip and pitot tubes will be replaced with fine metal wire/staple or similar. The transparent panel will just be a bird strike if anyone spots it. A little smudgy blob of something in the middle of the ‘crack’ will do the trick. Once had a seabird crack a front winscreen on a Sea King so it does happen!!!!
