Duxford airshow, 8th and 9th september,

I was just wondering if anyone knows what the ques are like to get in to the show. I'll be coming from the North, down the M11, so I believe there's a bit of a diversion in place. It's a two hour trip to get there so how much time should I allow for queing ?

Thanks

Hi Colin,I've been to Duxford shows a few times and the queues seem to vary a lot. For the BoB anniversary shows it was taking people fours hour to get in from the motorway and then they had to park on the road and walk the last half mile! It's not usually that bad but the weather forecast is good which tends to increase the "walk up".

I'm considering going myself on the Sunday if I don't get dragged in to work (I'm on a standby at the moment!).I'll miss the Vulcan but SWMBO loves the Red Arrows so there's no debate really :)

I would advise trying to get there well in advance of the flying which usually starts around 14.00 hrs. There's plenty to look at in the various museum buildings and typically (though I don't know specifically for this show) you can walk along the flightline until mid day and get a good look at the participants.

I'll be aiming for about 10.00 hrs if I can go and might expect a queue even then.

Take something to sit on and a few pies!

Cheers

Thanks Steve,

I was nearly going on Sunday as well, but managed to change my Saturday for a day off. It's a tough call, Vulcan or Red arrows. With the weather being so good, the arrows display will be brilliant.

Ques, well, great weather and the 'Vulcan effect' will no doubt increase numbers. So, I think it will be a 0530 start. No problem for me, but the kids faces, well what a picture when I told them !

I know that look Colin!

Years ago when our girls were fairly young, about 7 and 9,we took off to America, hired a car,and drove across the country. We used to set off early on the morning of a travel day,5 or 6 o'clockish. They would stumble to the car and sleep until we stopped for breakfast a couple of hours later and then be wide awake by the time we arrived somewhere interesting or got stopped for speeding which they enjoyed inordinately. I think I was stopped four times in four different States and got away with it every time. Be unfailingly polite but never give them the card part of the licence, give them the big green paper bit,sit back and enjoy!

Cheers

Nice one Steve,

During my Merchant days, we often found a nice clear english accent with impeccable maners would get you out of all sorts of trouble with the police and many other authorities !!
