discussion ebay listin fees

i listed a few thing on ebay.co.uk yesturday. lets just say it wasnt cheap! one came to £3 something and the other £4 something.

i just listed (accidently) on ebay.com and the total was......drum role.......

$1.50!!!!

what a bargain. and considering when you search on ebay.co.uk it shows you results for .com as well but not the other way round its well worth it.

i think....if someone can clarify this for me. its cheaper to list in certain catagories?

The fee's depend on how much you start at and what other extra stuff you have, what it end's at. the train I just sold cost .15p and .84p from the final price, it went for £16.01, which TBH I thought it was a bit low as one went a few day's before for £21, but that's the luck of the draw, I've never made a profit on ebay

E-bay has become unviable for smaller items,the UK listing fees are much too high especially when you list something of an higher value and protect it with a reserve,how some of the dealers cope with the fees especially those with a lot of listings is a mystery ?

What annoyed me recently was when they took some of my items off because they were priced on 'Buy-It-Now' too cheaply according to them,what they were really saying was that they were not making enough money from them,I had to re-instate them at more cost to myself and increase the prices to satisfy E-bay plus it caused a lot of confusion with people who were in the process of buying at that time,I had to sort out the mess they left me in.

I only use them to turn over things that are surplus to my requirements,but as John says you will not make much money there.

And now they keep pestering me to join E-bay Express whatever that is ? no thank you.

I List anything upto 60 items a month on ebay.co.uk..... the fees are starting to be prohibitive , especially if selling items for under a fiver- its a joke now....- just waiting for the other model auction site to take off !

I agree Guy they are no longer viable for small sellers,I have just paid them for this weeks fees for small items it works out they have had over £80 from me this past month plus another large amount from Pay-pal their associate,the dealers selling kits must be feeling the pinch.

Regarding other possible auctions there are plenty out there,but their software is not up to scratch and the coverage poor,having tried them the effort is just not worth it.

Perhaps we should make better use of our 'For Sale' section here ? it is very rarely used.

i am not sure on johns feelings about using the for sale board section for selling things on a 'semi commercial' basis- for the bits we all hoard and collect that become surplus then its fine...

i use my ebay sales to fund my projects- so i make fittings or model items i need, i then mould them and reproduce them- the funds i get for selling them then goes some way to covering my modelling costs, plus others get to enjoy my handywork !

I was thinking along the lines of just providing the link Guy,there would be no harm in that and I dont think John would mind,or you could place the link in the Modellers Resource directory for reference purposes.

Banned,barred for life..!!! you are OK Guy,it is the blatent first timers who come on and advertise their wares that get up our nose,I have just been looking at your bits and pieces,there is a lot of work gone into them both from the initial design to the first pour of resin,you are a man of many modelling talents.

Have you ever thought of doing airfield buildings ? hangars,control towers etc I would be interested in those and I am sure there would be quite a market for them.

I just sold something on Ebay which sold for $701 US Dollars, The real rip off was the fee's charged by Paypal.

If the amount was paid from the US to another US dollar bank account the fee was $20.00 but as it was being paid from the US to the UK it was £28.00.

When I transferred the amount to my bank account the exchange rate given was approx £10 less than exchange rates published elsewhere.

As it is an electronic transfer it also stays in Paypal's accounts for a week or so prior to ending up in my account.

I did ask the buyer to pay the additional amount though to cover the fee's and in respect to him him paid those additional costs. Shipping was £69.00 too! Some people have money to spare!

That is precisely why I refuse point blank to have anything to do with Paypal.

They are as big a disgrace as Ebay!!

Richard,E-bay,Pay-pay,Bidnapper,etc are all part and parcel of E-bay,what really gets my back up is this stupid community thing they keep harping on about,they could not care about anything and the community thing is just something to give the impression that they care.

As the Merchouse court case lingers on they try and get every penny out of people by any means within their empire,the auction guild has urged people to set up auctions using the software that E-bay bans from their selling site,it wants everything their own way and fails to face the press as complaints go on and on.

no "love it" lol. its seems ok, a bit bright but one thing that will be the downfall of this site is the "wanted" section. it will soon get over run and be a mass of lists which will be impossible to manage!

And me as well now ? must have been a temporary glitch,I think that their prices are very fair and this could catch on,anyone else going to give it a try ? Squiffy if you have your ears on this could be good for your kit listings.
