Ebay sellers from China?

Allyne, not only models but I've had all kinds of stuff from both Chinese and Hong Kong ebayers. They usually mark the package 'Gift' thus avoiding duty. Very friendly and efficient. Delivery has always been quick.\ said:

Re import duties.
Generally on small items you won't be due or liable to any, items above a certain weight and size are subject to duty and long term businesses that value their business abroad will not deliberately mislabel as ultimately they will suffer the consequences if investigated.
(my wife runs a business and deals with many suppliers from China in addition to India, Italy and so on)
The other side of it is, if a parcel is stopped and checked (as they typically are once customs have gotten wise to the seller), You as the customer are liable to pay any import duties due and any fees that are incurred as a result of this, you will not receive your item unless you pay up and with some larger items this can prove more costly than buying in the UK.
Some sellers will genuinely offer to pay duties incurred, most will not.
Not trying to be a killjoy but be aware of this little potential hiccup
On the other side, most Chinese sellers on ebay are very good with good customer service, communication and turnaround times, I have in the past received items from chinese sellers faster than UK sellers on ebay.

You are also quite right to point out the risk of duty having to be payed if the item is checked.

I have had things sent from China and Hong Kong and Got slammed by customs on all three occasions.
I have had a purchase sent from Japan though and that was marked as a gift and I got away with that one. (Luck too as it was the most expensive!!!)
I think tis a case of You pays your money and you takes the chance.
One thing is certain, as M1iks said, Once the people at HMCE get hold of it you are never going to see it again untill you pay up! (Duties are also incurred on the cost of freight just so you know).
AND just in case you are wondering, YES the same applies to things from the USofA. (Last time I checked they were not a member of the EEC).
