Is it worth me going to meets to learn and appreciate what to do? X
I agree with Si.

I was once a member of an IPMS model group many years ago.

We held a competition with judge from Leeds IPMS, who offered no constructive criticism and was rude with his comments.

It put me off showing any of my models or joining any clubs since, and then I found this forum.

The gal/guys here will be always be honest with their comments, and direct if they feel something could/may be improved.

Nothing heavy, just honest down to earth constructive criticism to help improve our efforts.

You will enjoy it here!

Gregg

I have to admit all this is quite new for me...let me explain, all you know I'm not english, but I'm here :)

There isn't any kind of club where I live (in fact on the big city as well ). So my first option was a modelling forum in my mother language. But, oh my God!! After a fast look, mmm...how to explain..."bad vibrations". Just wondering if a club as the same as a spanish forum...

Sometimes I have the "wish" to talk with my country modellers. So when I hear you have many different clubs I'm really glad for all you guys ;)

and much better if I hear all goes perfect as well!!

Errr...you accept another country members ? :P

We welcome all Polux, after all we let Alan join. :P

the thing with modelling is that we build on our own which is not always a good thing ," it is good to talk " as the advert says , i too have joined my local ipms and we have a great time with info flowing and models looked over , it is hard to beat this forum but you cant beat a face to face .

I agree Steve, just for a noob it is better to get something that you can show and interact with instead of going in cold.

Si:)

I'm not allowed to talk to girlies on Yahoo...or any other do-da, backface, nutter...etc...mainly down to the fact that this is forum is just about all I can manage...haven't a clue about anything else.

Si:)

Awesome news Alan, sounds like you found a great bunch of modellers. I don't belong to any club , just this forum, it's all I need for my modelling habit.

Cheers joe I agree but it's nice to talk to fellow modellers face to face and it's a good laugh :)

I found a local club a few month ago, I use the word "club" loosely as it's a group of a dozen or so like minded modellers that meet up once a month for a chat and a cuppa.

There's a good mixture of types, aircraft, figures, vehicles, and it's not too serious, there's always a good laugh. Everyone brings along something whether a finished kit, work-in-progress, or something still boxed and it's like a show and tell, it's always a grin and very educating.

....and it's a tenner to join for a year and your membership card gives 10% off at the local model shop (Hannants!). Go figure..... :)

Great stuff andy mines the same and being a multi builder I can talk to all of them mines deaer though it's £1.50 every two weeks but we do shows in the area every summer no discount for shops though

Well done Alan it is nice when you get good feedback at the local club. I went to mine a couple of weeks back and took three of my builds the F-4, A-4 and the pickup dio and all were received better than I could have imagined. The dio got the most attention to say I was chuffed when I left would be an understatement.

That's great terry it seems that a lot of us have had a positive response from clubs and that's good , I haven't met all in the club yet there were a couple on holiday but judging by what I've seen so far I think if there are any elitists I'll just be ignored and that's fine by me :)

I keep being determined to start a club then finding a million reasons why not to start a club.

I have never ever seen any other person's model. So I do not really know that my standard is not that that would change I suspect even if I belonged to a club.

The only club is one run by model train enthusiasts. In Jersey we have 3 shops with small departments for the plastic model making fraternity so there must be a need amongst the Island population of 100,000. Been in touch with the local paper and they will do a spread. Also one of the model shops I am sure will sponsor adverts and the setting up of a club.

Got to get the urge. Problem is I have belonged to two organisations and ended up more or less running them which I do not want again as it takes some of the enjoyment away.

Has any one been involved in starting a club or been one of the first there in a new club ?

Laurie
