hi all,

just a quick question. Are academy hobby models any good. are they comparable to any other makes. :)

cheers.

Si

I've built only two Academy kits, they don't really do my preferred scale, and they were both good to do. I've done the 1/48 B-17 and 1/72 Storch.

Cheers

The Academy 1/72 Spitfire XIVe is a cute little kit, I enjoyed making it... :-)

fantastic. i picked up 2 models today for £16 which i thought was a bargain. a M151A2 tow missile launcher 1/35 and a M4A2 Sherman 1/35 (Russian army). ill start them soon and keep you guys up to date after i finish the Dakota C-47.

Thanks again

Si:)

no its the revell..not the best fit but ive loved every minute of the build.

the Italeri one isn't a great fit either. Plus the windscreen is flimsy as hell

i think it is part of the challenge. first time ive ever used filler (except on a wall lol) it was really hard to get it the right thickness and then have the patience to wait for it to dry before sanding. it something im going to have practice.

Welcome to the forum Ping-pong, can we call you ping for short, or do you have a real name. Don't be shy, we don't bite- hard lol.

I have built a few aircraft from Academy and they worked out OK. As Allyne (Flounder-al) said watch out for the decals, they can be a bit, erm, brittle and break up on you.

The trick to getting your filler to dry as quick as you want it to is to put it on thin and build it up gradually. A warm lamp also helps if you are really in a hurry. Note Models and Hurrying dont mix!

Look forwards to seeing the rewards of your labours.

Hi Ian,

I'm Simon. Ping is ok to.This forum is a pleasure to be part of, everybody is so nice and very helpful.

I try not to rush and do things at a controlled pace but i get excited lol.

ill try to put the putty on in small layers and build it up.

thanks again for all the advice. It is most definetly welcome.
