The sound of the Merlin is ok. Not quite what is heard from a flying Spit.

One of the engines I think is a griffon. A follow on I think, from the Merlin. It was perhaps used on the "newest" Spits or maybe the Sea Fury?Barry can you enlighten us?

Contra-rotating. Two props on two shafts, one inside of and longer than the other, driven by the gearbox/s configured to rotate shafts clock wise, and anti-clock wise. Quite a few Aircraft use this type of prop drive.

if its not the griffon i must have saw that at leuchars air show cos it springs to mind

i have seen one of those contra rotating engines on that plane

i have a photo of it that my dad took somewhere
