I have a little video project i want to make (nothing dirty before you lot say it). But i have totally no idea how to cut scenes from video and splice them together. Also i need to remove the sound off the original video(s) and over-lay my own audio.

Any ideas for some free software that is easy for a dummy to use?

ive used window smovie maker in the past

take a look on download.com......all the free stuff thats any good will be on there

For simple cutting, editing and overlaying audio ... Windows movie maker .... Is easy for your average pc user to use and I think its free with no limitations in use.

There's others free but obviously there will be limitations in quality and versatility when compared to the "professional" software.

it should have a help function al but you can always post in this thread for help and advice. theres a few of us that have experience in video suite software,

ive more than dabbled in it and laurie is very knowledgeable in editing with his experience in wedding imagery.

Thanks for all the help guys. Found a help video on youtube and gave it a go.

Here's what I came up with. Salute to the Sturmbock - YouTube

Not bad for a first attempt eh? lol

Thanks Colin for that dubious accolade !

The editing gear will not make any difference to the quality of the picture that is down to the camera & to the way the computer takes the material & puts it in to a file. Some editing gear comes with its own separate capture gear but this is mainly to facilitate the editing & stop it falling over.

I belong to a video club & a number of the members produced their films using Microsoft Movie Maker. So it must be easy to use !!!???

Not sure what connection you have on your computer or camera. It is possible you may need a board with the correct combination to camera. My lap top came with a firewire but there are alot of difference.

Not used this software but a quick look at it indicates that you can fiddle with the audio. If you need to mix ie talk over background music for instance you need two tracks one for the original one for the new.

But it looks good for basic editing.

Any further help just let me know & I will see if I have an answer Allyne

Allyne try this Make a movie in four simple steps

Gives basic steps. Each step takes you deeper into how to do it.

Your film good step forward. One tip is to make your clips as short as possible it increases the tempo & also the most important captures & keeps your audience attention. Easy way to judge is to keep shortening the clips until it does not look right. Also best with audio when you judge as audio makes a difference, believe it or not, to the length you judge using a clip.

Nice movie Al...Any model blogs or reviews gonna be produced with your new found skills? I love utube model channels.

I probably could do a review of some models/kit Aaron but I wouldn't want to bore people too much lol

I buy kits based on utube reviews and build logs on web sites like this one.I actually got back into modelling as an adult because of Hamilka barkas utube channel.Nothing about model kits is boring to me.You have nothing to loose by doing an honest kit review, and from what ive seen utube modellers are a great bunch of chaps.Sure it has its trolls but thats what the delete comment option is for ;)I hope you DO give it a try id sub for sure.

Nice vid Allayne, and are you the flight sim pilot too, cos who ever it is, is a hell of a shot, hitting those B17's at that range.

No it's not me in the sim. Although I have the game (IL2 - 1946). I am hoping to get some more game footage and make it a better video
