I have a German Munitionsschlepper sitting around unfinished, the paint codes in the instructions are a bit vague but the bottom line is I need Feld Grau, which acrylic paint code is most suitable? I prefer to use VMA or AK Interactive paints but Tamiya is also acceptable.

According to their colour chart, Vallejo state Panzergrau (RAL 7021) is VMA 71.056. This colour chart states it's equivalent to FS 36081 but doesn't give AK or Tamiya equivalents:

PS Crossed with Steve's post.

Thanks Dave but I’m looking for Feld Grau.

Ooops. I really must start paying more attention1

Like you, I've found some confusion over what Feld Grau was. Most sources I've looked at say it was RAL 6006, but some say it didn't have a RAL number. Even if it was 6006, Vallejo aren't much help. I've found two of their colours that say they're the right colour. You decide:

I also found this. Even though it applies to uniforms rather than vehicles, maybe Feld Grau was a generic term applied to any sort of medium grey that the makers could get hold of or create using whatever they had to hand.

XF-22 or XF-27 or XF-50 or XF-74 using humbrol colour converter
Humbrol 111 ( matt ) is Feld Grau
Ral 7009

Oh FFS! That’s even more vague

The problem is that a colour is called many things by different companies / armies / navies etc

If two forces use same colour , guaranteed it is called something different by both.

I am using XF-65 for uniform field-grey ( later war years ) , but use German Grey ( XF-63) for my early war tanks etc.

It's worse than trying to match Olive Drab or Dunkelgelb! I think your best bet is to find something you feel looks right and go with it. Whatever colour you pick, I daresay if you took it to a rivet counters site, somebody would say it was wrong!

Tamiya reference their XF 22 as RLM 02 which I always use for Luftwaffe cockpits. Saying that, it does have a hint of green, which a lot of Feld Grau pictures seem to show. Gary's choice of XF 65 also looks good but I'm not sure about the XF 63 - it looks a bit dark to me - but I certainly wouldn't say it was wrong.

Not that I want to add to the confusion, but the box art vehicle definitely looks feldgrau compared to the panzergrau radio truck in the background. However, I am no expert, but have not come across German vehicles in feldgrau before. RLM 04 was a very common colour for Luftwaffe vehicles and aircraft, and that is quite feldgrau in appearance, so it may actually have been finished in RLM 04?
Cheers
Tim

I don't think you really want to be using field grey do you? Do you?
Seriously though, is it a Wehrmacht vehicle?
Jon.
