ok, picture the scene, im looking for a couple of cheap models on eBay, when i spy something of interest, 15 minutes left, no bids, my lucky day...... So i with 1minute left i set my bid, £3.50 and like the wolf of wall street i bide my time..... 10 seconds left, now, i confirm bid..... And boom, its mine.

5 days later i get home from work ... "Theres a parcel here for you, what is it" says the wife, rumbled. Any way the parcel looks a good size, so i open it only to find the much smaller model box inside, complete with the £1.99 price still on it, and then i open it a view the contents......View attachment 97177

Look at the wheels, look at them...... Its at this point that i burst out laughing, yep, i have been mugged right off...... Which leads me to my question.... What are the best makes of model kits and why... And which are the worst

Wow that's sucks man! I have built 2 Heller military kits in 1/35 scale and was happy with them both. What scale is that?

No such thing form my point of view Amos. Each model to be assessed on its merits. Tamiya I have had problems with and they are supposed to be the tops. Their 1/48 Sea Harrier is poor in detail.

Airfix new moulding are really first class. The Merlin I have completed was superb detailing and mouldings. Old stuff from Airfix can be a bit dodgy on the moulding and the detail.

Revell. Quite a good qualtiy.

Best thing when buying a model is to put it in search and you will find lots of comments. Also following the builds you get a fair idea form the builder as to how good.

Also to ask on here about a particular model. One of the best ways.

One thing Amos all the above are not as yucks as the Ebay one above but after saying that a very nice colour.

Caveat Emptor! It's always best to research a potential purchase, as Laurie says, not every manufacturer hits the mark every time.

In fairness Amos, that is a small-scale kit: 1/43, which I think is the same scale as most Dinky/Corgi die casts, so, what, 4" long? It actually doesn't look that bad to me, although it does appear from the photo like the wheels might be a bit distorted. I built a 1/43 Heller car many years ago and quite enjoyed it.

Although you are unhappy with your purchase take it on as a challenge and do the best your can with it as this will be great practice for when you acquire a better quality kit.

Im not unhappy, its a lesson learnt, just thought i'd share it...... I just didnt expect it to look like something out of a kinder egg.

I have a couple of decent kits, but just wanted a cheapy to practice a bit more on,as i have made a right pigs ear of my Triumph TR4, so was looking for something to give me a bit of a confidence boost.
