I've been looking for some info. on a Spitfire I'm attempting to build for a little while and came across this little gem of a video. Not sure if anyones seen this before but thought I'd post it anyway.

The Spitfire I'm interested in is it's sister plane on the production line and squadron, P9372, flown by WC Watling out of Biggin Hill. It flew the same day as P9374 in the video on an offensive sortie over Dunkirk assisting British and french troops trapped by the Germans. Apparently it was the first engagement with the enemy for 92 Squadron.

P9372 was shot down in Sept 1940 during the BoB causing injury to WC Watling who baled out but thankfully survived. The reason for my interest is due to purchasing part of the exhaust ports from this Spitfire last year. I then found WC Watlings story and decided to build a MK1 Spitfire in his markings to complement the exhaust on my shelf.

Anyway, hope this is of interest.

What a wonderful job they've done, superb but it really bugs me when people give mechanical objects a gender

A Spitfire is a wonderful machine, it's beautiful, built for one purpose and responds to sensitive handling but it certainly isn't a "she". Oh..... wait a minute :smile8:

Great Video Colin. I love those shots taken from behind as the spit comes in on full flaps. I read about this restoration and was amazed after so long in sea water/sand that it was still fit for restoration.We are so lucky to have people with the skills to keep so many of these warbirds flying.

Does anyone know if the Aircraft Restoration Company is open to public viewing at Duxford or do they just share the same ground?

Would love to get a close look at this Spitfire.
