I'm some of you will remember a while back we did a group build, I don't think it was as successful as it could have been, but it was fun, anyway there are a lot more active members now and I thought it might be a good time to see if anyone is interested in doing another?

I will do a poll in this thread to see how many are interested, if it looks like it's worth it I will talk to some model shops and try and get a deal on kits to save us money.

We can decided what model we are going to do at a later date all I need now is numbers interested.

Remember this won't be a race to see who can finish first or to see who is the best it's more helping out others sharing your techniques and problems you may run in to.

great idea John.

im currently running a Wild Weasel group build on the ARC and am in an A-10 group build.

i think they are a great idea.

I am not sure if I understand. Are we all trying to build something for a massive final project? Or just each of us build the same kit at the same time for kicks?

each build the same model (or a model within a certain subject) within a specified time frame.

eg: for my wild weasel gb on the ARC you can build any wild weasel/iron hand aircraft or any aircraft that has/is used for anti-air suppression in any scale, from any make.

people are making F-4Gs, F/A-18s, EA-6Bs A-6s, F-4Fs, F-105s...etc

but i think John would want to narrow the chritirea a bit. eg: ww2 nightfighters in 1/72 or something

Hrrrrrrrm, sounds like a mission!

Im in, just keep us posted john!

That's not a bad idea! Although I have no idea what you could have as the massive project?

You could really build anything where there's a lot of detail. An airfield scene.. A carrier air wing perhaps? A used car lot. Or maybe a bunch of race cars to go on a scale track section... Model railroad clubs do these sorts of things all the time when they're building towns and layouts and such.

god richard. pull your finger out lol.

...i think only 3 or 4 of us acutally finished it!

John. for ideas maybe take a look through the ARCs group builds. current and previous. there are lots and could be a good source for ideas on subjects...etc

I've still not started the Spitfire from the first one!!!
Yours should clearly be the best then after getting all those valuable hints and tips from watching the other builds!

A theme is a good idea,ie Search & Rescue,Trainers,Aerobatic Teams,Paramedic,Awesome giants etc steer clear please of the hacked to death Spitfire's ! there is so much scope out there and by suggesting a theme it gives more individual scope, you could even do one along the lines of 'Colour it Red' 'Colour it sand' 'Colour it blue' once more lots of scope to do individual subjects that will add more interest for everyone participating in the project.

Does that work the same ay as a community build where U build a model and show it if so I'm having trouble building in a community build. If not how do U get on with overseas builders wanting to take part.

So whatever happened to the would-be group build? As RJ said, other sites do them a lot (ARC, Britmodeller, etc) - they are quite good fun, but you need a window of about 6-8 months so that everyone has a reasonable chance of completing something. The "search and rescue" idea of Barry's sounds quite good, as you could include wheeled vehicles, boats and aircraft (although I presently have nothing in my stash that would be suitable).

We had a "Black" group build at my local club a few weeks ago, so I entered with a Beaufighter Nightfighter and simultaneously entered Britmodeller's "90 Years of the RAF" GB. (I just put the pics in my Gallery if you want a quick look). The Gladiator you'll also see there was from a previous group build on ARC entitled "North Africa and Mediterranean".
